A Scoping Review of GIS Mapping of Type 1 Diabetes in Children: Identifying Current Gaps and Future Research Directions Using PRISMA-ScR
CONCLUSION: Studies on type 1 diabetes highlight the complex relationship between incidence and risk, suggesting comprehensive prevention and treatment. Geographical mapping has potential in low- and middle-income nations, but further research is needed to develop innovative strategies. The importance of geomappping in understanding the risk factors for Type 1 Diabetes is highlighted in this scoping review, which also suggests a possible direction for focused interventions, particularly in settings with low resources.PMID:38676507 | DOI:10.2174/0115733998288125240402052930 (Source: Current Diabetes Reviews)

Probiotic Supplementation during Pregnancy: Evaluating the Current Clinical Evidence Against Gestational Diabetes Mellitus
CONCLUSION: Probiotic supplementation at conventional dosages and in combination with a balanced healthy diet, and lifestyle seems to reduce the the risk of developing GDM, while ameliorating the severity of its symptoms. Further clinical studies taking into account the above considerations should be performed to establish conclusive results, while the future meta-analyses should include studies with the feasibly lowest heterogeneity.PMID:38676509 | DOI:10.2174/0115733998284749240417052006 (Source: Current Diabetes Reviews)

Effects of Metformin Therapy on Thyroid Volume and Functions in Patients with Newly Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Single-center Prospective Study
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that metformin treatment significantly reduces body weight, BMI, thyroid volume, and serum TSH, ALT, and Anti-TPO levels in patients with newly diagnosed T2DM. Moreover, serum TSH levels showed a significant decrease in non-obese subjects, while thyroid volume showed a significant decrease in obese subjects.PMID:38676519 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303307313240315162000 (Source: Endocrine, Metabolic and Immune Disorders Drug Targets)

Ginsenoside Rb1 ameliorates lipotoxicity-induced myocardial injury in diabetes mellitus by regulating Mfn2
CONCLUSION: GRb1 alleviated myocardial lipid accumulation and mitochondrial injury, and attenuated ventricular diastolic dysfunction in diabetic mice. The regulation of Mfn2 was involved in the protective effects of GRb1 against lipotoxic myocardial injury.PMID:38677536 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2024.176609 (Source: European Journal of Pharmacology)

Oxidative Stress-Responsive Apoptosis Inducing Protein (ORAIP) Plays a Critical Role in Dextran Sulfate Sodium-Induced Murine Model of Ulcerative Colitis
Medicina (Kaunas). 2024 Mar 26;60(4):539. doi: 10.3390/medicina60040539.ABSTRACTOxidative stress is implicated in the pathogenesis of various acute disorders including ischemia/reperfusion injury, ultraviolet/radiation burn, as well as chronic disorders such as dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, chronic renal disease, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, the precise mechanism involved remains to be clarified. We formerly identified a novel apoptosis-inducing humoral protein, in a hypoxia/reoxygenation-conditioned medium of cardiac myocytes, which proved to be 69th tyrosine-sulfated eukaryotic trans...

Platelet, Antiplatelet Therapy and Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease: A Narrative Review
Life (Basel). 2024 Apr 4;14(4):473. doi: 10.3390/life14040473.ABSTRACTMetabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is not only related to traditional cardiovascular risk factors like type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity, but it is also an independent risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease. MASLD has been shown to be independently related to endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis. MASLD is characterized by a chronic proinflammatory response that, in turn, may induce a prothrombotic state. Several mechanisms such as endothelial and platelet dysfunction, changes in the coagulative f...

Family History of Type 2 Diabetes and Its Association with Beta Cell Function and Lipid Profile in Newly Diagnosed Pediatric Patients with Type 1 Diabetes
CONCLUSION: A family history of T2D may contribute to the heterogeneity of T1D patients in terms of HOMA2-%B levels and lipid profile. This highlights the significance of taking into account T2D-related factors in the diagnosis and treatment of T1D.PMID:38676343 | DOI:10.1080/07435800.2024.2339934 (Source: Cell Research)

Pancreatic beta ‐cell mass and function and therapeutic implications of using antidiabetic medications in type 2 diabetes
This review article examines the decline in pancreatic β-cell mass and function as central to the pathogenesis of type 1 and advanced type 2 diabetes. It discusses the potential for β-cell regeneration in response to increased insulin demand and evaluates how various antidiabetic medications may affect this process. The therapeutic implications of the se findings for the management and treatment of diabetes are explored, offering new insights into potential interventions. AbstractNowadays, the focus of diabetes treatment has switched from lowering the glucose level to preserving glycemic homeostasis and slowing the disea...

Ketogenic Diets Hold Therapeutic Potential Against Periodontal Inflammation
AbstractPurpose of ReviewPeriodontitis, one of the most prevalent diseases in the world, is caused by the accumulation of dysbiotic microbial biofilm on the teeth leading to chronic inflammation of the tissues surrounding the teeth. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), obesity, chronic stress, and smoking are some of the risk factors for the disease. A high-carbohydrate diet also increases the risk of periodontal inflammation. Modifying diet and nutrition could serve as a preventive and therapeutic tool to target multiple risk factors simultaneously.Recent FindingsEmerging evidence shows that the ketogenic diet induces hormeti...

Nutritional status and its relationship with COVID-19 prognosis in hemodialysis patients
CONCLUSIONS: higher body mass index and higher body fat content, along with lower baseline levels of triglycerides and ferritin, are significantly associated with higher COVID-19 mortality in patients on chronic hemodialysis. These findings suggest that the initial nutritional status of these patients can significantly influence the prognosis of SARSCoV-2 infection.PMID:38666342 | DOI:10.20960/nh.04850 (Source: Nutricion Hospitalaria)
