The global impact of SARS-CoV-2 variant BA.2.86: a comprehensive analysis with the latest developments and transmission trends - an epidemiological study
CONCLUSIONS: The SARS-CoV-2, novel variant BA.2.86, spread over six continents and 89 countries and affected 19,532 people worldwide. The disease is more prevalent in the United Kingdom, United States of America, and European countries. The detection of the disease in multiple continents and countries suggests some degree of transmissibility. Global health authorities need to rethink their policies and implement strict strategies to eradicate emerging variants and minimize the global disease burden.PMID:38639533 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35928 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Seronegative patients with primary Sj ögren's syndrome and non-pSS sicca test positive for anti-SSA/Ro52 and -Ro60 in saliva
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that salivary anti-SSA/Ro antibodies are potential discriminatory biomarkers for pSS, which may also identify seronegative patients, addressing the unmet clinical need of early detection and stratification of pSS.PMID:38641012 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbadis.2024.167168 (Source: Biochimica et Biophysica Acta)

Paternal use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and adverse health outcomes: A nationwide cohort study on 13,547 exposed children
This study aimed to assess adverse birth outcomes and adverse early life events in children fathered by men using SSRIs prior to conception.Materials and methodsAll live-born singleton children born in Denmark from 1997 until 2019 and their parents were included. The exposed cohort comprised all children fathered by men using SSRIs 3 months prior to conception and the unexposed cohort comprised all other children. We estimated the odds ratios for adverse birth outcomes: small for gestational age (SGA), preterm birth, low Apgar score, and major congenital malformations. Furthermore, we estimated the hazard ratios for advers...

Vitamin D3 among neonates born after in  vitro fertilization compared with neonates from the general population
ConclusionsIn this study, children born after in  vitro fertilization have a higher vitamin D3 than a random sample of neonates in Denmark. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

Reducing workload in malignant melanoma sentinel node examination: a national study of pathology reports from 507 melanoma patients
Conclusions Reducing the number of levels examined to three levels 300 µm apart combined with IHC does not have significant impact on metastasis detection rate, and we will therefore recommend that the future melanoma SN guideline takes this into consideration to reduce overall workload. Delaying anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction for more than 3 or 6  months results in lower risk of revision surgery
ConclusionThe risk of revision ACLR surgery was found to be increased when ACLR was performed within 3  months or 6 months of injury compared with later surgery. The 1 year postoperative objective knee laxity and the subjective patient-related outcome was found to be without a clinically significant difference; however, those with early ACLR (<  3 months or <  6 months) were found to have a higher activity level 1 year postoperatively. The information about increased risk of revision when having early surgery should be informed to patients when deciding timing of ACLR treatment.Level of evidence: II. (Sou...

The SaVe project - Sarcopenia and Vertigo in aging patients with colorectal cancer: A study protocol for three randomized controlled trials
DISCUSSION: Trial enrollment began in April 2023 and is the first trial to evaluate reasons for dizziness, decline in walking balance, and sarcopenia in older patients receiving chemotherapy. The trial will provide new and valuable knowledge in how to assess, manage, and prevent dizziness, decline in walking balance, and sarcopenia in older patients with colorectal cancer.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The Regional Ethics Committee (j.nr. H-22064206). Danish Data Protection Agency (P-2023-86) and ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05710809).PMID:38631243 | DOI:10.1016/j.jgo.2024.101770 (Source: Cancer Control)
