The Role of Physical Literacy in the Association Between Weather and Physical Activity: A Longitudinal Multilevel Analysis With 951 Children
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the varying impact of weather on PA across individuals, the present study favors a main effect model in which weather and PL exert independent effects on children's PA. The insufficient support for PL as a moderating factor calls for future studies to test alternative mechanisms in the weather-PA association.PMID:38626893 | DOI:10.1123/jpah.2022-0596 (Source: Journal of Physical Activity and Health)

Impact of COVID-19 restrictions on self-poisoning behaviour with mild analgesics in Danish youth
CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that the restrictions enforced during the second lockdown greatly impacted youth mental health, especially girls, leading to an 85% increase in self-poisonings. We hope for increased awareness of mental health in children and adolescents during possible future lockdowns.PMID:38625374 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2339433 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

Reinforced predeployment training of European military surgical teams: the key requirements are technical, non-technical, and also tactical skills.
Dear Editor, we read with great interest the study by Haverkamps et al. which examined the perceived readiness, training needs, deployment experience and post-deployment impact of Danish, Dutch and Finnish military surgical teams deployed between 2013 and 2020.[1] The survey showed a very good perception of pre-deployment readiness, with a median score of four on a five-point scale for all military surgical team professions: surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses. Although pre-deployment medical training was only mandatory for Dutch military surgical teams, half of those surveyed reported preparation activities such as a ...

Development and Internal Validation of a Multivariable Prediction Model for Mortality After Hip Fracture with Machine Learning Techniques
AbstractIn order to estimate the likelihood of 1, 3, 6 and 12  month mortality in patients with hip fractures, we applied a variety of machine learning methods using readily available, preoperative data. We used prospectively collected data from a single university hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark for consecutive patients with hip fractures, aged 60 years and older, treated between September 2008 to September 2010 (n = 1186). Preoperative biochemical and anamnestic data were used as predictors and outcome was survival at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after the fracture. After feature selection for each timepoint a stratified...

Interaction of genetic risk and lifestyle on the incidence of atrial fibrillation
Conclusions The rates of AF increased gradually with worse lifestyle within each category of genetic risk. We found a positive interaction on an additive scale between genetic risk and lifestyle, suggesting that risk factor modification is especially important in individuals with a high genetic risk of AF. Association of Tumor Necrosis Factor- α Inhibitors with Incident Dementia: Analysis Based on Population-Based Cohort Studies
ConclusionsTumor necrosis factor- α inhibitors may decrease the risk of incident dementia although the association did not reach statistical significance in this analysis. Further research, ideally with randomization, is needed to gauge the potential of repurposing TNFi for dementia prevention and/or treatment. (Source: Drugs and Aging)

Excessive androgen exposure and risk of malignancies: A cohort study
Discussion and conclusionMale androgen users did not face an increased short-term risk of cancer, neither overall nor related to prostate or breast cancer. Our study indicates that the absolute risk of malignancies in androgen users is comparable to that in the background population. However, we cannot exclude androgens as a cancer risk factor due to the limited sample size, relatively short follow-up period, and subject age. (Source: Andrology)
