Policy Reform on the Qualification Pathway of Internationally Educated Nurses in Greenland and Its Relationship With the Danish System: A Qualitative Discourse Analysis
This article aimed to analyze existing policies and propose recommendations for an independent registration process for IENs in Greenland. A qualitative discourse analysis was used to critically discuss existing policies and regulations governing nursing registration in Greenland. Relevant legislation, government reports, and official documents were reviewed. Legislative regulations protect the title of registered nurse in both Greenland and Denmark. To work in Greenland, an IEN must have a residence permit. With recent health agreements between Greenland and Denmark, both countries have streamlined the permit acquisition ...

Antidepressant use and ovarian cancer risk: Evidence from nationwide studies with > 14,000 cases from Denmark and Sweden
Depression is estimated to have affected 4.4  % of the global population in 2015 (1). The condition has a high recurrence rate and in most cases require medium- to long-term treatment. The number of prescriptions for antidepressants has been increasing substantially over the last decades (2), and it is of public health priority to investigat e the epidemiology of potential side effects in a systematic fashion. Commonly prescribed antidepressants include tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). (Source: Maturitas)

Protocol for a prospective multicentre cohort study to address the question whether diabetes and its management is still a risk factor in fast-track joint arthroplasty
Introduction Perioperative glycaemic control is important. However, the complexity of guidelines for perioperative diabetes management is complicated due to different and novel antihyperglycaemic medications, limited procedure-specific data and lack of data from implemented fast-track regimens which otherwise are known to reduce morbidity and glucose homeostasis disturbances. Consequently, outcome in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) after surgery and the influence of perioperative diabetes management on postoperative recovery remains poorly understood. Methods and analysis A prospective observational multicentre study...

Social characteristics and social benefit use among premenopausal breast cancer survivors in Denmark: a population-based cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Use of social benefits reflecting lost ability to work was highest in less educated women and in women living alone.IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS: Awareness of these groups is crucial when tailoring efforts to support work participation in cancer survivors.PMID:38647591 | DOI:10.1007/s11764-024-01598-z (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)

Increased cancer incidence among patients with hidradenitis suppurativa - a Danish nationwide register study 1977-2017
Acta Oncol. 2024 Apr 21;63:220-228. doi: 10.2340/1651-226X.2024.26182.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The chronic, inflammatory skin disease hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) (prevalence: 0.5%-1%, diagnostic delay: 7-10 years) primarily arises in younger adults and frequently coincides with autoimmune comorbidities and unhealthy life-styles (smoking and obesity). These factors are known to increase cancer risk, but despite this, information on cancer occurrence among HS patients is scarce.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A nationwide retrospective register-based study assessing relative risk of cancer - overall and by anatomical site - following HS...

Challenges in the management of new daily persistent headache at a tertiary headache center-A retrospective real-world evidence study
CONCLUSION: In this study we add real-world evidence to suggest that prophylactic drugs conventionally used for treating chronic migraine and chronic tension-type headache have limited utility for treating NDPH; however, a partial response in 26% of patients using candesartan and 15% of patients using mirtazapine warrants further investigation in randomized double-blinded placebo-controlled trials.PMID:38646979 | DOI:10.1111/head.14715 (Source: Headache)

Factors Associated With Time to Decannulation in Patients With Tracheostomy Following Severe Traumatic Brain Injury
CONCLUSIONS: This study found that a change in swallowing ability is a potentially significant factor for reducing time to decannulation. Identifying factors that could explain differences in time to decannulation is essential for patient outcomes, especially if these factors are modifiable and could be targeted in rehabilitation and treatment.PMID:38649274 | DOI:10.4187/respcare.11376 (Source: Respiratory Care)

Workplace sexual harassment: a qualitative study of the self-labelling process among employees in Denmark
CONCLUSION: The analysis showed that the interviewees related sexual harassment with physical, coercive, and intentional behaviours, whereas unwanted sexual attention was seen as less severe and less intentional. The interviewees often doubted how to label their experience, and making sense of one´s experience could take years. Self-labelling is inherently a social process, and the validation and rejection of others play an important role. Finally, the #MeToo movement constituted a turning point for several interviewees' understandings of events.PMID:38648665 | PMC:PMC11036896 | DOI:10.1080/17482631.2024.2324990 (Source: ...
