Employment status in cancer patients the first five years after diagnosis —a register-based study
ConclusionMost cancer patients had lower chances of working compared with the general population until five years after diagnosis. However, patients with certain cancer types experienced lower chances of working all years, despite improvement over time.Implications for Cancer SurvivorsThe knowledge will help increase awareness on challenges regarding work-life after cancer. Furthermore, the distinguishing between diagnoses can inform to more targeted vocational rehabilitation. (Source: Journal of Cancer Survivorship)

Digital setup accuracy for moderate crowding correction with fixed orthodontic appliances: a prospective study
ConclusionsThe accuracy of semi-automatic prediction of the labial fixed appliance treatment outcome in Class I cases with moderate crowding is not yet sufficient. While average measures showed deviations less than 1 mm, examination of individual color-coded distance maps revealed significant disparities between the simulated and the actual results. Timing of Radiotherapy (RT) After Radical Prostatectomy (RP): Long-term outcomes in the RADICALS-RT trial [NCT00541047]
Ann Oncol. 2024 Apr 5:S0923-7534(24)00105-4. doi: 10.1016/j.annonc.2024.03.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The optimal timing of radiotherapy (RT) after radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer has been uncertain. RADICALS-RT compared efficacy and safety of adjuvant RT versus an observation policy with salvage RT for PSA failure.METHODS: RADICALS-RT was a randomised controlled trial enrolling patients with ≥1 risk factor (pT3/4, Gleason 7-10, positive margins, pre-op PSA≥10ng/ml) for recurrence after radical prostatectomy. Patients were randomised 1:1 to adjuvant RT ("Adjuvant-RT") or an observation pol...

Time trends in opioid use for patients undergoing hip fracture surgery in 1997 –2018: A Danish population‐based cohort study
ConclusionThe PRs of opioid use in Q1 after surgery increased substantially from 1997 to 2018, but this did not translate into increased opioid use up to 1  year after hip fracture surgery or higher dosage. Our findings underline the importance of sustained focus on opioid tapering, dosage and use of opioids with the lowest potential for addiction and other adverse events.Significance StatementOverall, opioid use in Q1 after hip fracture surgery increased 2.7 times from 1997 to 2018, but the doses and opioid use up to 1  year after surgery remained stable. Compared to elderly, younger patients were more likely to use o...

The asbestos –asbestosis exposure–response relationship: a cohort study of the general working population
Conclusions This study found exposure–response relations between cumulative asbestos exposure and incident asbestosis in the Danish general working population with mainly low-level exposed occupations, but there is some uncertainty regarding the exposure levels. by Iversen IB, Vestergaard JM, Ohlander J, Peters S, Bendstrup E, Bonde JPE, Schlünssen V, Bønløkke JH, Rasmussen F, Stokholm ZA, Andersen MB, Kromhout H, Kolstad HA. doi:10.5271/sjweh.4160 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health)

Cholangioscopy with Spyglass DS using percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography access: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: S-PTCS is a safe modality, with high success rates, high predictive values, and a low rate of complications. This study suggests that S-PTCS is an alternative to conventional methods in patients with indeterminate biliary strictures where conventional methods were unfeasible.PMID:38576952 | PMC:PMC10990305 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001840 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

The modified Rajan's heart failure risk score predicts all-cause mortality in patients hospitalized for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: The modified R-hf risk score predicted all-cause mortality in patients hospitalized with HFrEF. Further validation of the modified R-hf risk score in other cohorts of patients with HFrEF is needed before clinical application.PMID:38576988 | PMC:PMC10990347 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001646 (Source: Annals of Medicine)
