The rise of GLP-1 agonists: considerations for Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery
Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists are in a class of medications used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity. Some of the common brand name medications such as Ozempic ® (Novo Nordisk, Denmark), Wegovy® (Novo Nordisk, Denmark), and Trulicity® (Eli Lilly, USA) have gained mainstream attention and popularity in recent years particularly for their application for weight loss. Given the rise in number of patients taking GLP-1 agonists, an emerging area of concern i n healthcare is how best to manage these medications prior to patients undergoing anesthesia. Quality of Life Assessment in Danish Heroin Assisted Treatment Patients: Validity of the SF-36 Survey
ConclusionOur findings support the validity of the SF-36 Health Survey as a measure of the quality of life in people undergoing Heroin Assisted Treatment. The fact that the factors structure of the SF-36 was stable over repeated measurements implies that it can be used as a measure of change in this population. Future studies should consider a longitudinal design and attempt to predict future hospital contact using quality-of-life measures in patients with opioid addiction. Enhancing the data capture of periprosthetic joint infections in the Danish Knee Arthroplasty Registry: validity assessment and incidence estimation
CONCLUSION: The sensitivity of revision due to PJI in the DKR was 58%. The cumulative incidence of PJI within 1 year after TKA was highest (1.1%) when combining the DKR and HAIBA, showing that incorporating microbiology data into arthroplasty registries can enhance PJI validity.PMID:38595072 | PMC:PMC11004670 | DOI:10.2340/17453674.2024.40358 (Source: Acta Orthopaedica)

To use or not to use proprietary street view images in (health and place) research? That is the question
Health Place. 2024 Apr 9;87:103244. doi: 10.1016/j.healthplace.2024.103244. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTComputer vision-based analysis of street view imagery has transformative impacts on environmental assessments. Interactive web services, particularly Google Street View, play an ever-important role in making imagery data ubiquitous. Despite the technical ease of harnessing millions of Google Street View images, this article questions the current practices in using this proprietary data source from a European viewpoint. Our concern lies with Google's terms of service, which restrict bulk image downloads and the generati...

Overview of health research in Greenland from 2001 to 2020
CONCLUSION: During the past 20 years, Greenland's annual publication rate has been steadily increasing, with an average of 32 articles about health research published each year, which is a higher publication rate than world average. The health research in Greenland is primarily epidemiologic with infectious disease being the most studied research area. Most publications were anchored in Denmark and centred around a few highly productive authors.PMID:38600438 | DOI:10.1177/14034948241245184 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)

Porcine respiratory coronavirus genome sequences; comparisons and relationships to transmissible gastroenteritis viruses
In this study we obtained and compared PRCV sequences from Europe and the US, and investigated how these are related to transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) sequences. The whole genome sequences of Danish (1/90-DK), Italian (PRCV15087/12 III NPTV Parma), and Belgian PRCV (91V44) strains are presented. These sequences were aligned with nine other PRCV sequences from Europe and the US, and 43 TGEV sequences. Following alignment of the PRCV sequences, it was apparent that multiple amino acid variations in the structural proteins were distinct between the European and US strains. The alignments were used to build phyloge...
