The modified Rajan's heart failure risk score predicts all-cause mortality in patients hospitalized for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: The modified R-hf risk score predicted all-cause mortality in patients hospitalized with HFrEF. Further validation of the modified R-hf risk score in other cohorts of patients with HFrEF is needed before clinical application.PMID:38576988 | PMC:PMC10990347 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001646 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Pertussis epidemic in Denmark, August 2023 to February 2024
We report a record high pertussis epidemic in Denmark since August 2023. Highest incidence was in adolescents, while peak incidence in infants was lower vs previous epidemics in 2019 and 2016. Among infants aged 0-2 months, over half (29/48) were hospitalised and one infant died, underlining the disease severity in the youngest. To protect infants, pertussis vaccination in pregnant women was introduced in January 2024 in the national vaccination programme. Improved vaccination surveillance in pregnant women is being implemented.PMID:38577803 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2024.29.14.2400160 (Source: Euro Surveill)

Burden of selected chronic non-communicable diseases in a primary healthcare setting in Nuuk, Greenland, compared to a Danish suburb
CONCLUSION: In contrast to the disease pattern observed in Greenland in the last century, the prevalence of diagnosed NCDs in Nuuk is no longer rare. Thus, the overall prevalence of NCDs in the population of Nuuk is now comparable to or even higher than in the suburb in Denmark. This calls for increased focus on all NCDs in the primary healthcare system in Greenland and adaption of the primary healthcare services to a changed disease spectrum.PMID:38578458 | DOI:10.1080/02813432.2024.2334746 (Source: Primary Care)

The asbestos-asbestosis exposure-response relationship: a cohort study of the general working population
CONCLUSIONS: This study found exposure-response relations between cumulative asbestos exposure and incident asbestosis in the Danish general working population with mainly low-level exposed occupations, but there is some uncertainty regarding the exposure levels.PMID:38577971 | DOI:10.5271/sjweh.4153 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health)

Cholangioscopy with Spyglass DS using percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography access: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: S-PTCS is a safe modality, with high success rates, high predictive values, and a low rate of complications. This study suggests that S-PTCS is an alternative to conventional methods in patients with indeterminate biliary strictures where conventional methods were unfeasible.PMID:38576952 | PMC:PMC10990305 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001840 (Source: Annals of Medicine)
