Heart and Lung Dose as Predictors of Overall Survival in Patients With Locally Advanced Lung Cancer. A National Multicenter Study
CONCLUSIONS: Besides the classic noncardiac risk factors, lung and heart doses had a negative impact on survival, while it is suggested that the left side of the heart is a more radiation dose-sensitive region. The data indicate that overall heart irradiation should be reduced to improve the OS if possible.PMID:38590728 | PMC:PMC10999485 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtocrr.2024.100663 (Source: Clinical Lung Cancer)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1449: The Prognostic Impact of the Surgical Margin in Renal Cell Carcinoma Treated with Partial Nephrectomy: A Multi-Center Study
Conclusions: Our study presents further evidence on the negative impact of PSM on recurrence after PN for RCC, highlighting the importance of achieving NSM, thus potentially improving clinical outcomes. A surgical approach was found to be the only predictive factor influencing the risk of PSMs, with a reduced risk observed with robot-assisted laparoscopy. (Source: Cancers)

Potential Applications of Mitochondrial Therapy with a Focus on Parkinson's Disease and Mitochondrial Transplantation
CONCLUSION: The development of innovative therapeutics for mitochondria-directed treatments in Parkinson's disease may be aided by optimizing mitochondrial dynamics. Many neurological diseases have been studied in animal and cellular models, and it has been found that mitochondrial maintenance can slow the death of neuronal cells. It has been hypothesized that drug therapies for neurodegenerative diseases that focus on mitochondrial dysfunction will help to delay the onset of neuronal dysfunction.PMID:38585467 | PMC:PMC10997929 | DOI:10.34172/apb.2024.019 (Source: Adv Data)

The importance of the fourth Greek key motif of human γD-crystallin in maintaining lens transparency-the tale told by the tail
CONCLUSIONS: Loss of 39 amino acids in the fourth Greek key motif of human γD-crystallin affects the secondary and tertiary structures and exposes the hydrophobic residues to the solvent. These changes make the molecule less stable, resulting in the formation of light-scattering particles, which explains the importance of the fourth Greek key in the underlying mechanism of opacification and cataract.PMID:38586607 | PMC:PMC10994683 (Source: Molecular Vision)

Clinical factors associated with patterns of endocrine therapy adherence in premenopausal breast cancer patients
CONCLUSIONS: Women with stage I cancer, no chemotherapy, higher comorbidity burden, and history of chronic non-cancer medication use were less likely to adhere to AET. Taking steps to promote adherence in these groups of women may reduce their risk of recurrence.PMID:38589932 | DOI:10.1186/s13058-024-01819-4 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)
