Opening the black box of registration practice for self-harm and suicide attempts in emergency departments: a qualitative study
CONCLUSION: The study findings resulted in eight overall recommendations for clinical practice that aim at improving the registration of patients presenting with self-harm or suicide attempts. This would be expected to help improve surveillance and prevention programs.PMID:38678191 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-024-02393-6 (Source: Primary Care)

Evaluation of microplastic pollution using bee colonies: an exploration of various sampling methodologies
This study evaluates several methods of sampling MPs, using honeybees, pollen, and a novel in-hive passive sampler named the APITrap. The collected samples were characterized using a stereomicroscopy to count and categorise MPs by morphology, colour, and type. To chemical identification, a micro-Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was employed to determine the polymer types. The study was conducted across four consecutive surveillance programmes, in five different apiaries in Denmark. Our findings indicated that APITrap demonstrated better reproducibility, with a lower variation in results of 39%, compared to 11...

Correlations between preoperative statin treatment with short- and long-term survival following colorectal cancer surgery: a propensity score-matched national cohort study
ConclusionAlthough a subgroup of patients with a preoperative exposure time of 90  days showed statistically significant better overall survival, we found no statistically significant association between statin exposure 1 year before colorectal cancer surgery and overall survival. Surgery in patients with infective endocarditis and prognostic importance of patient frailty
ConclusionFrailty was associated with an ≈40% increased rate of rehospitalization (≥ 14 days) or death. Further studies are needed to assess the effectiveness of surgery with a focus on frailty to improve prognostic outcomes in these patients. (Source: Infection)

Comparable low revision rates of stemmed and stemless total anatomic shoulder arthroplasties after exclusion of metal backed glenoid components: a collaboration between the Australian and Danish national shoulder arthroplasty registries
The stemmed anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty is the gold standard in the treatment of glenohumeral osteoarthritis. However, the use of stemless total shoulder arthroplasties has increased in recent years. The number of revision procedures are relatively low and therefore it has been recommended that national joint replacement registries should collaborate when comparing revision rates. Therefore, we aimed to compare the revision rates of stemmed and stemless TSA used for the diagnosis of glenohumeral osteoarthritis using data from both the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJR...
