SYNERGY —Everolimus-Eluting Stent With a Bioabsorbable Polymer in ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction: CLEAR SYNERGY OASIS-9 Registry
Our objective was to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the SYNERGY stent (Boston Scientific Corporation, Marlborough, Massachusetts) in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The only drug-eluting stent approved for treatment of STEMI by the Food and Drug Administration is the Taxus stent (Boston Scientific) which is no longer commercially available, so further data are needed. The CLEAR SYNERGY stent registry was embedded into a larger randomized trial of patients with STEMI (n  = 7,000), comparing colchicine versus placebo and spironolactone versus placebo. Structure-based design and synthesis of BML284 derivatives: A novel class of colchicine-site noncovalent tubulin degradation agents
This study provided a successful example of crystal structure-guided discovery of 5i as a colchicine-targeted tubulin degradation agent, expanding the scope of targeted protein degradation.PMID:38430854 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejmech.2024.116265 (Source: European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry)

Colchicine and plaque: A focus on atherosclerosis imaging
Prog Cardiovasc Dis. 2024 Feb 27:S0033-0620(24)00031-8. doi: 10.1016/j.pcad.2024.02.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTColchicine is an anti-inflammatory medication, classically used to treat a wide spectrum of autoimmune diseases. More recently, colchicine has proven itself a key pharmacotherapy in cardiovascular disease (CVD) management, atherosclerotic plaque modification, and coronary artery disease (CAD) treatment. Colchicine acts on many anti-inflammatory pathways, which translates to cardiovascular event reduction, plaque transformation, and plaque reduction. With the FDA's 2023 approval of colchicine for reducing c...

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 303: Autotetraploid Induction of Three A-Genome Wild Peanut Species, Arachis cardenasii, A. correntina, and A. diogoi
Hsuan Chen A-genome Arachis species (AA; 2n = 2x = 20) are commonly used as secondary germplasm sources in cultivated peanut breeding, Arachis hypogaea L. (AABB; 2n = 4x = 40), for the introgression of various biotic and abiotic stress resistance genes. Genome doubling is critical to overcoming the hybridization barrier of infertility that arises from ploidy-level differences between wild germplasm and cultivated peanuts. To develop improved genome doubling methods, four trials of various concentrations of the mitotic inhibitor treatments colchicine, oryzalin, and trifluralin were tested on the seedlings and seeds of ...

Fucoidan-induced reduction of lipid accumulation in foam cells through overexpression of lysosome genes
In this study, three inhibitors, CPZ, EIPA, and colchicine, were used to inhibit endocytosis, macropinocytosis, and the tubulin pathway, respectively, to study the pathways of action. Transcriptomics and proteomics analysis, as well as western blotting and qRT-PCR were used to determine the effects of fucoidan and the inhibitors on lysosomal genes and proteins. Fucoidan could enter foam cells through both endocytosis and via macropinocytosis, and then further undergo intracellular transport via the tubulin pathway. After fucoidan treatment, the expression of lysosomal pathway-related genes and proteins including LAMP2, AP3...

Effects of colchicine on the prevention of AF recurrence after atrial ablation: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionProphylactic use of colchicine after atrial ablation was not associated with a reduction in AF recurrence and pericarditis rates. In addition, there was no difference in the rate of all-cause hospitalization between the groups, and colchicine use was associated with gastrointestinal adverse events.Graphical Abstract (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology)

Serum endocan, asymmetric dimethylarginine and lipid profile in children with familial Mediterranean fever
CONCLUSION: Serum ADMA and lipid profile might be used as potential markers for endothelial dysfunction and increased cardiovascular risk in FMF patients.IMPACT: Theoretically, serum ADMA may affect lipid profiles and serum endocan represents an intriguing biomarker related to inflammation. Coexistence of dyslipidemia represents an additional risk factor that contributes to the onset of early atherosclerosis. A few studies investigated the role of changes in lipid profile and lipid ratios in accelerated atherosclerosis pathogenesis in FMF patients. The relationship between colchicine and lipid profile is contradictory. Alt...
