AZF microdeletion affects semen parameters, sex hormone levels, and chromosome karyotypes in infertile men in Xinjiang
In conclusion, AZF microdeletions can lead to a decline in semen quality in men, and different types of deletions have different effects on semen parameters, sex hormone levels, and karyotype analysis. Further treatments should be selected based on the AZF microdeletion area.PMID:38158680 | DOI:10.14715/cmb/2023.69.13.17 (Source: Cellular and Molecular Biology)

Contralateral surgical exploration after unsuccessful unilateral microscopic testicular sperm extraction —a recurrent challenge
Nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) is the most severe form of male infertility and often requires surgical sperm extraction for assisted reproduction. Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE), has emerged as the gold standard technique for men with NOA (1). Jensen et  al. (2) demonstrated the direct comparison between micro-TESE and multiple needle-pass percutaneous testicular sperm aspiration in men with NOA. Spermatozoa were retrieved in 43% of men receiving micro-TESE, compared with only 22% received using multiple needle-pass testicular sperm aspiration. (Source: Fertility and Sterility)

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 45: Russian Regional Differences in Allele Frequencies of CFTR Gene Variants: Genetic Monitoring of Infertile Couples
va Oleg S. Glotov A male factor, commonly associated with poor semen quality, is revealed in about 50% of infertile couples. CFTR gene variants are one of the common genetic causes of azoospermia-related male infertility. Notably, the spectrum and frequency of pathogenic CFTR variants vary between populations and geographical regions. In this work, we made an attempt to evaluate the allele frequency (AF) of 12 common CFTR variants in infertile Russian men and healthy individuals from different districts of Russia. Because of the limited number of population-based studies on Russian individuals, we characterized the p...

A bi-allelic REC114 loss-of-function variant causes meiotic arrest and nonobstructive azoospermia
Clin Genet. 2023 Dec 26. doi: 10.1111/cge.14473. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNonobstructive azoospermia (NOA), the most severe manifestation of male infertility, lacks a comprehensive understanding of its genetic etiology. Here, a bi-allelic loss-of-function variant in REC114 (c.568C > T: p.Gln190*) were identified through whole exome sequencing (WES) in a Chinese NOA patient. Testicular histopathological analysis and meiotic chromosomal spread analysis were conducted to assess the stage of spermatogenesis arrested. Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) and Western blot (WB) were used to investigate the influence of variant ...

The Effect of Chitosan/Alginate/Graphene Oxide Nanocomposites on Proliferation of Mouse Spermatogonial Stem Cells
J Funct Biomater. 2023 Nov 22;14(12):556. doi: 10.3390/jfb14120556.ABSTRACTMale survivors of childhood cancer have been known to be afflicted with azoospermia. To combat this, the isolation and purification of spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are crucial. Implementing scaffolds that emulate the extracellular matrix environment is vital for promoting the regeneration and proliferation of SSCs. This research aimed to evaluate the efficiency of nanocomposite scaffolds based on alginate, chitosan, and graphene oxide (GO) in facilitating SSCs proliferation. To analyze the cytotoxicity of the scaffolds, an MTT assay was conducte...

An overview of CFTR mutation profiles and assisted reproductive technology outcomes in Chinese  patients with congenital obstructive azoospermia
ConclusionApart from the IVS9-5T mutation, the genetic mutation pattern ofCFTR in Chinese OA patients is heterogeneous, which is significantly different from that of Caucasians. Although carrying twoCFTR mutations or not had no effect on the pregnancy outcomes in OA patients after ICSI, genetic counseling is still recommended for such patients.
