Cancer risk and male Infertility: Unravelling predictive biomarkers and prognostic indicators
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Apr 11:119670. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2024.119670. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn recent years, there has been a global increase in cases of male infertility. There are about 30 million cases of male infertility worldwide and male reproductive health is showing rapid decline in last few decades. It is now recognized as a potential risk factor for developing certain types of cancer, particularly genitourinary malignancies like testicular and prostate cancer. Male infertility is considered a potential indicator of overall health and an early biomarker for cancer. Cases of unexplained male factor infertilit...

Editorial: Ex  vivo onco-testis microdissection
When a patient has a solitary testis, a testis mass, and azoospermia, this is the last possible time to obtain sperm from a patient for use in a biologic pregnancy. Options for treatment, in this case, are partial orchiectomy with in  vivo testis microdissection or radical orchiectomy and ex vivo testis microdissection. The decision on what is best is based on shared decision-making with both surgeon and patient based on size of the mass, risk of recurrence with a partial orchiectomy, and the possibility of retaining enough te stis tissue for production of endogenous testosterone and possible spermatogenesis. Technology for Biobanking of Epididymal Spermatozoa from Patient with Obstructive Azoospermia: Case Report about Baby Born after Conventional Freezing Only with a Nonpermeable Cryoprotectant 360 kDa Polyvinylpyrrolidone
Biopreserv Biobank. 2024 Mar 18. doi: 10.1089/bio.2023.0032. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis publication reports, for the first time, the birth of a healthy child after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) of motile spermatozoa after conventional ("slow") freezing of epididymal spermatozoa using 5% polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) of high molecular weight (360 kDa). Cryopreservation solution with 10% PVP was added to 30 µL of spermatozoa suspension in a 1:1 ratio, with a final PVP concentration of 5%. Then, polycarbonate capillaries for oocyte denudation with a diameter of 170 µm were filled with 60 µL of the resulting ...

Sox9 downregulation in non-obstructive azoospermia by UTF1 and mediator role of POU5F1
Spermatogenesis is the process of producing mature sperm from Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) and this process requires a complex cooperation of different types of somatic and germ cells. Undifferentiated spe... (Source: BMC Research Notes)

Micromapping testicular sperm extraction: A new technique for microscopic testicular sperm extraction in nonobstructive azoospermia
CONCLUSIONS: MMTSE shows promise as a simple method that comprehensively searches testicular tissue and retrieves sperm using an appropriate method while minimizing patient burden.PMID:38476958 | PMC:PMC10927935 | DOI:10.1002/rmb2.12566 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

Effects of < em > Perilla frutescens < /em > Var. Acuta in Busulfan-Induced Spermatogenesis Dysfunction Mouse Model
CONCLUSIONS: This study shows that PFA exerts a protective effect against testicular damage by attenuating OS induced by busulfan. Our results suggest that PFA is a potentially relevant drug used to decrease the side effects induced by busulfan on testicular function and sperm during cancer chemotherapy.PMID:38449453 | DOI:10.5534/wjmh.230254 (Source: Cancer Control)
