Contralateral surgical exploration after unsuccessful unilateral microscopic testicular sperm extraction —a recurrent challenge

Nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) is the most severe form of male infertility and often requires surgical sperm extraction for assisted reproduction. Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE), has emerged as the gold standard technique for men with NOA (1). Jensen et  al. (2) demonstrated the direct comparison between micro-TESE and multiple needle-pass percutaneous testicular sperm aspiration in men with NOA. Spermatozoa were retrieved in 43% of men receiving micro-TESE, compared with only 22% received using multiple needle-pass testicular sperm aspiration.
