The impact of wound-healing assay, phorbol myristate acetate (PMA) stimulation and siRNA-mediated FURIN gene silencing on endogenous retroviral ERVW-1 expression level in U87-MG astrocytoma cells
CONCLUSION: Results showed that mechanical impact affects the expression of endogenous retroviruses in U-87 MG astrocytoma cells by scratch assay. Regulation of FURIN, a crucial enzyme in ERVW-1 turnover may support the therapy of some neurological conditions.PMID:38403160 | DOI:10.1016/j.advms.2024.02.007 (Source: Advances in Medical Sciences)

Pilocytic astrocytoma: The paradigmatic entity in low ‑grade gliomas (Review)
Oncol Lett. 2024 Feb 8;27(4):146. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14279. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTAmong low-grade gliomas, representing 10-20% of all primary brain tumours, the paradigmatic entity is constituted by pilocytic astrocytoma (PA), considered a grade 1 tumour by the World Health Organization. Generally, this tumour requires surgical treatment with an infrequent progression towards malignant gliomas. The present review focuses on clinicopathological characteristics, and reports imaging, neurosurgical and molecular features using a multidisciplinary approach. Macroscopically, PA is a slow-growing soft grey tissue, charac...

The potential of liquid biopsy for detection of the KIAA1549-BRAF fusion in circulating tumor DNA from children with pilocytic astrocytoma
CONCLUSIONS: While CNV analysis of CSF samples from LGGs still has some limitations, it has the potential to serve as a valuable complementary tool. Furthermore, it can also be multiplexed with other aberrations, for example, to the BRAF V600 test, to provide important insights into the molecular characteristics of LGGs.PMID:38371226 | PMC:PMC10874216 | DOI:10.1093/noajnl/vdae008 (Source: Adv Data)

Radio-pathomic maps of glioblastoma identify phenotypes of non-enhancing tumor infiltration associated with bevacizumab treatment response
ConclusionPatients with a hypocellular tumor front identified by radio-pathomic maps showed improved treatment efficacy when treated with bevacizumab, and reducing hypocellular volumes over the course of treatment may indicate treatment response. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

The development of a custom RNA-sequencing panel for the identification of predictive and diagnostic biomarkers in glioma
ConclusionsTOP2-RNA is a highly sensitive assay for detecting fusion genes, exon skipping, and aberrant gene expression. Alterations in targetable driver genes were identified in more than 50% of glioblastoma. Molecular profiling by TOP2-RNA provides ample predictive, prognostic, and diagnostic biomarkers that may not be identified by conventional assays and, therefore, is expected to increase treatment options for individual patients with glioma. Distant recurrence in the cerebellar dentate nucleus through the dentato-rubro-thalamo-cortical pathway in supratentorial glioma cases
ConclusionDistant recurrence along the DRTC pathway is not rare in astrocytomas, GB, or DMG at the frontal lobe or thalamus. Recurrence in the DN developed as a result of the infiltration of tumor cells through the DRTC pathway, not dissemination through the CSF. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)
