Natural Autoantibodies in Biologic-Treated Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis Patients: Associations with Vascular Pathophysiology
Int J Mol Sci. 2024 Mar 18;25(6):3429. doi: 10.3390/ijms25063429.ABSTRACTCardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality have been associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Natural autoantibodies (nAAb) are involved in innate immunity, as well as autoimmunity, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. There have not been any studies assessing the effects of biologics on nAAbs in RA and AS, also in relation to vascular pathophysiology. Fifty-three anti-TNF-treated RA and AS patients were included in a 12-month follow-up study. Anti-citrate synthase (CS) and anti-topoisomerase I fragment 4 (TOPO-F4) IgM...

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 426: Investigating the Influence of ANTXR2 Gene Mutations on Protective Antigen Binding for Heightened Anthrax Resistance
This study delves into the genetic landscape of ANTXR2, aiming to comprehend its associations with diverse disorders, elucidate the impacts of its mutations, and pinpoint minimal non-pathogenic mutations capable of reducing the binding affinity of the ANTXR2 gene with the protective antigen. Recognizing the pivotal role of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in shaping genetic diversity, we conducted computational analyses to discern highly deleterious and tolerated non-synonymous SNPs (nsSNPs) in the ANTXR2 gene. The Mutpred2 server determined that the Arg465Trp alteration in the ANTXR2 gene leads to altered DNA bindin...

Decreasing incidence of cervical spine fractures in patients with ankylosing spondylitis: A population-based study in Southeast Norway
Individuals diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) face an increased risk of spine fractures, specifically cervical spine fractures (CS-Fxs). In the past two decades, biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) have provided considerable relief from pain and an enhanced sense of wellbeing for a large segment of AS patients. Despite these improvements, it remains unclear whether extended use of bDMARDs can indeed reduce the risk of spine fractures. (Source: The Spine Journal)

Additional Data in Expanded Patient Populations and New Indications Support the Practice of Biosimilar-to-Biosimilar Switching
AbstractAs of 31 December, 2023, 31 observational studies have been published, including a total of 6081 patients who underwent a switch from one biosimilar to another biosimilar of the same reference biologic. Most studies evaluated infliximab, while a smaller number evaluated adalimumab, rituximab or etanercept. Indications studied now include sarcoidosis, as well as the indications previously reported of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis/ankylosing spondylitis and inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn ’s disease and ulcerative colitis). This updated data set includes eight additional studi...
