The Role of H3K27me3-Mediated Th17 Differentiation in Ankylosing Spondylitis
The objective of this study was to investigate the expression of H3K27me3 in patients with AS and to explore its epigenetic regulation mechanism of Th17 differentiation during AS inflammation. We collected serum samples from 45 patients with AS at various stages and 10 healthy controls to measure their Interleukin-17 (IL-17) levels using ELISA. A quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to quantify the mRNA levels of RORc and the signaling molecules of the JAK2/STAT3 pathway, JMJD3, and EZH2. Additionally, Western blot analysis was performed to quantify the protein levels of H3K27me3, ROR γt, JAK2, STAT3, JMJD3, an...

Upadacitinib in Crohn's disease
Expert Opin Pharmacother. 2024 Mar 21. doi: 10.1080/14656566.2024.2333964. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: The small molecule and oral selective and reversible Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor upadacitinib has been approved for the treatment of moderate to severe active Crohn's disease (CD) in adult patients since April 2023 by EMA/FDA.AREAS COVERED: The approval is based on the two induction studies a maintenance study showing that upadacitinib induction and maintenance therapy was superior to placebo. The approval of upadacitinib in CD expands the therapeutic armamentarium for the management of inflammatory bowel...

An updated advancement of bifunctional IL-27 in inflammatory autoimmune diseases
Interleukin-27 (IL-27) is a member of the IL-12 family. The gene encoding IL-27 is located at chromosome 16p11. IL-27 is considered as a heterodimeric cytokine, which consists of Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)-induced gene 3 (Ebi3) and IL-27p28. Based on the function of IL-27, it binds to receptor IL-27rα or gp130 and then regulates downstream cascade. To date, findings show that the expression of IL-27 is abnormal in different inflammatory autoimmune diseases (including systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren syndrome, Behcet’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, systemic sclerosis,...

Association between Sj ögren syndrome, sociodemographic factors, comorbid conditions, and optic neuritis: a Taiwanese population-based study
DISCUSSION: Our findings strongly support the existence of an association between Sjögren syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, granulomatous vasculitis, human herpes viral infection, tuberculosis, and optic neuritis.PMID:38476197 | PMC:PMC10927792 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2024.1353326 (Source: Herpes)

A Case of Insidious Onset of Kimura Disease-associated Immunoglobulin A Nephropathy without Eosinophil Infiltration in the Renal Tissue
In this study, we report a case of KD combined with immunoglobulin A nephropathy that first presented as a mass in the inguinal region, followed by recurrent renal involvement. Previous reports suggested that renal involvement caused by KD was due to direct infiltration of eosinophils; however, in this case, no eosinophil infiltration was found in the renal tissue after renal biopsy. This observation reminds us to approach the case from an immune-related molecular perspective to investigate the exact cause of renal damage due to KD.PMID:38477957 | DOI:10.18502/ijaai.v22i6.14649 (Source: Iranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology)

A Comprehensive Review on the Role of Interleukin-40 as a Biomarker for Diagnosing Inflammatory Diseases
Autoimmune Dis. 2024 Mar 1;2024:3968767. doi: 10.1155/2024/3968767. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTInterleukins are a group of proteins that have a wide range of complex functions and are believed to be involved in several diseases and conditions. In particular, interleukin-40 (IL-40) is a recently identified cytokine associated with B cells that was first introduced by Catalan et al. in 2017. This cytokine has several roles in the body, including functioning in the formation of B cells in the bone marrow, IgA production, and expression in the intestinal microbiome. Moreover, IL-40 appears to be involved in numerous autoimmune a...
