Ankylosing spondylitis: acute/subacute vs. chronic iridocyclitis - a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionOur findings provide new proof of a positive causal relationship between AS and IC in the European population. Notably, it is Acute/Subacute IC, rather than IC as a whole or Chronic IC, that is associated with an elevated risk of AS. These results emphasize the significance of considering AS characteristics in the diagnosis of Acute/Subacute IC. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

IL-17A inhibitor-induced leucocytoclastic vasculitis is responsive to IL-23 blockade in a psoriatic arthritis patient
Introduction Secukinumab is a fully humanised monoclonal antibody directed at interleukin 17A (IL-17A) which has been widely used for the treatment of plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and ankylosing spondylitis.1 The use of secukinumab increases the risk of mucocutaneous candidiasis, but little is known about other specific cutaneous adverse events (AEs). Of note, few cases of secukinumab-induced leucocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV) have been described in the literature.2 3 Case presentation A 59-year-old man with a history of plaque psoriasis and PsA refractory to first-line and second-line treatment presented wit...

Card9/neutrophil signalling axis promotes IL-17A-mediated ankylosing spondylitis
Conclusions These data reveal a novel neutrophil-intrinsic role for Card9 in arthritogenic Th17 responses and AS pathogenesis. These data provide valuable utility in our future understanding of CARD9-specific mechanisms in spondyloarthritis . (Source: Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases)

Bimekizumab treatment in patients with active axial spondyloarthritis: 52-week efficacy and safety from the randomised parallel phase 3 BE MOBILE 1 and BE MOBILE 2 studies
Conclusions At Week 52, dual inhibition of IL-17A and IL-17F with BKZ resulted in sustained efficacy across the axSpA spectrum; the safety profile was consistent with the known safety of BKZ. Trial registration number NCT03928704; NCT03928743. (Source: Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases)

Specific descriptions of axial involvement are associated with radiographic damage development after 2 years in psoriatic arthritis patients
Conclusions The likelihood of syndesmophyte formation in PsA is low. The probability of developing syndesmophytes is much higher when axial involvement is determined radiographically rather than clinically, particularly in the context of high CRP. (Source: Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases)

Challenges and promise of targeting miRNA in rheumatic diseases: a computational approach to identify miRNA association with cell types, cytokines, and disease mechanisms
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that alter the expression of target genes at the post-transcriptional level, influencing diverse outcomes in metabolism, cell differentiation, proliferation, cell survival, and cell death. Dysregulated miRNA expression is implicated in various rheumatic conditions, including ankylosing spondylitis (AS), gout, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), osteoarthritis (OA), psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Sjogren’s syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and systemic sclerosis. For this review, we used an open-source programming language- PowerShell, to scan the m...

Association of endometriosis with Sj ögren's syndrome: Genetic insights (Review)
Int J Mol Med. 2024 Feb;53(2):20. doi: 10.3892/ijmm.2024.5344. Epub 2024 Jan 8.ABSTRACTPatients with a history of endometriosis have an increased risk of developing various autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis and celiac disease. There is a potential association between endometriosis and an increased susceptibility for Sjögren's syndrome (SS). SS is a common chronic, inflammatory, systemic, autoimmune, multifactorial disease of complex pathology, with genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors contributing to the development of this c...

Expert Rev Clin Immunol. 2024 Jan 8. doi: 10.1080/1744666X.2024.2303340. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Targeting IL-17A using Secukinumab; a humanized monoclonal immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1)/κ against IL-17A is a therapeutic option for immune-mediated disorders such as psoriasis and ankylosing spondylitis. The US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency have approved it for the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, active psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and non-radiographic axial spondylarthritis. Recently it has also been approved for use in children with severe pla...
