Comparison of Effects of Sugammadex and  Neostigmine on Postoperative Neuromuscular Blockade Recovery in Patients with Interstitial Lung Diseases Undergoing Transbronchial Cryobiopsy: A Randomized Trial
CONCLUSIONS Sugammadex is more effective than neostigmine in reversing the muscle-relaxant effect of rocuronium bromide in patients with ILDs.PMID:38689479 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.942773 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

External dacryocystorhinostomy: A critical overview of the current evidence
CONCLUSION: Ext-DCR offers satisfactory clinical outcomes even though there are many gray areas that need to be addressed in future high-quality studies.PMID:38689455 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241249214 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Common anesthetic used in preclinical PET imaging inhibits metabolism of the PET tracer [18F]3F4AP
Differences in the brain uptake and metabolism of demyelination PET tracer [18F]3F4AP have been observed while imaging anesthetized nonhuman primates and awake human subjects. Isoflurane anesthesia was found to enhance the brain uptake and in  vivo stability of [18F]3F4AP in mice. These findings underscore the critical need to examine the effect of isoflurane in PET imaging studies before translating tracers to humans that will be scanned without anesthesia. AbstractPositron emission tomography (PET) imaging studies in laboratory animals are almost always performed under isoflurane anesthesia to ensure that the subject st...

Role of preoperative zinc, magnesium and budesonide gargles in Postoperative Sore Throat (POST) - a randomised control trial
Post-operative sore throat (POST) has an incidence ranging from 21 to 80%. To prevent the development of POST, several pharmacological measures have been tried. Aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of... (Source: BMC Anesthesiology)

My anesthesia Choice-HF: development and preliminary testing of a tool to facilitate conversations about anesthesia for hip fracture surgery
Patients often desire involvement in anesthesia decisions, yet clinicians rarely explain anesthesia options or elicit preferences. We developed My Anesthesia Choice-Hip Fracture, a conversation aid about anest... (Source: BMC Anesthesiology)

Head Position During Sleep: Potential Implications for Patients with Neurodegenerative Disorders
Background: In 2015, Lee et al. observed sleeping position influenced the efficiency of glymphatic clearance of β-amyloid in anesthetized rats with the lateral position being more efficient than supine. In 2018, Levendowski et al. reported supine sleep> 2-hours per night was associated with neurodegenerative disorders (NDD) independent of age, sex, obstructive sleep apnea, and snoring. In 2019, Simka et al. revealed that in lateral positions the internal jugular vein above the heart partially collapses to optimize cerebral venous outflow and glymphatic clearance while in the supine position both internal jugular veins are...

Perineal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Arising in an Epidermal Cyst
Acta Med Okayama. 2024 Apr;78(2):197-200. doi: 10.18926/AMO/66930.ABSTRACTA 90-year-old Japanese woman who had been aware of a subcutaneous mass on the right perineal region for 5 years was referred to our hospital for further examination and treatment because of the rapid growth of the mass and bleeding that began 3 months earlier. A biopsy of the mass revealed a diagnosis of well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. On preoperative examination, the tumor was 90×40 mm in size and was suspected to have partially invaded the levator ani muscle and external sphincter. Since a preoperative cardiac evaluation indicated sev...

Delta-SVV as a Predictor for Circulating Blood Volume Evaluation during Intraoperative Period: A Prospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, SVV measured by FloTrac / Vigileo could guile fluid therapy precisely by predicting the blood volume of patients during the intraoperative period, as it has a strong linear correlation with the blood volume of patients who underwent general anesthesia, meaning anesthesiologist could calculate the exact fluid volume for patients' infusion. Further studies with large cohorts and centers would be needed to validate its efficiency.PMID:38687861 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Effect of isoflurane anaesthetic time on ocular a-scan ultrasonography measures and their relationship to age and OCT measures in the guinea pig
This study shows that the depth of ocular components can change dramatically with anaesthesia. Researchers should therefore be wary of these concomitant effects and should employ adjustments to better render 'true' values.PMID:38685338 | DOI:10.1016/j.exer.2024.109914 (Source: Experimental Eye Research)

Cystectomy for bladder cancer in Sweden - short-term outcomes after centralization
CONCLUSION: After the centralization of the cystectomy-care in Sweden, older patients and individuals with more extensive comorbidity were offered RC whereas 90-day mortality and the proportion of patients subjected to reoperations within 90 days of surgery decreased without increasing waiting times.PMID:38685576 | DOI:10.2340/sju.v59.40120 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Urology)
