Challenges and pitfalls in the perioperative management of mediastinal mass syndrome: an up-to-date review
We describe diagnostic evaluation, preoperative optimization, intraoperative considerations, and postoperative care strategies, emphasizing the paramount significance of a multidisciplinary approach and personalized treatment plans. Preoperative multidisciplinary discussions, meticulous anesthetic management, and well-established protocols for emergency situations are pivotal to ensuring patient safety. Healthcare providers involved in the care of patients with mediastinal mass syndrome must grasp these challenges and pitfalls, enabling them to deliver safe and effective perioperative management.PMID:38693982 | PMC:PMC1105...

Comparing Neuromuscular Blockade Measurement Between Upper Arm (TOF Cuff ®) and Eyelid (TOF Scan®) Using Mivacurium during General Anesthesia
CONCLUSIONS When measurement on the limb is not possible, TOF-Scan on the eyelid can be an alternative for TOF-Cuff on the upper arm, if the time to relaxation is multiplied by at least 8, which is enough for 90% of patients.PMID:38693676 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.943630 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Effectiveness of implementing a standardized perioperative pain management protocol in children undergoing tonsillectomy: A quality improvement project
CONCLUSION: The quality improvement project highlighted notable improvements in the intervention group for whom a standardized perioperative pain management protocol was used, including reduced opioid medication administration, lower incidence of respiratory interventions, and high adherence to the pain management protocol. These findings underscore the effectiveness and feasibility of standardized protocols in enhancing patient outcomes.PMID:38695104 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14917 (Source: Paediatric Anaesthesia)

Avoiding pain during propofol injection in pediatric anesthesia: Hypnoanalgesia of the hand versus intravenous lidocaine
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that hypnoanalgesia of the hand alone is effective to prevent the pain related to propofol injection in children. No significant difference was found in comparison with lidocaine admixture nor for pain or satisfaction.PMID:38693886 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14909 (Source: Paediatric Anaesthesia)

Determination of optimal positive end-expiratory pressure using electrical impedance tomography in infants under general anesthesia: Comparison between supine and prone positions
CONCLUSION: The prone position required higher positive end-expiratory pressure than the supine position in mechanically ventilated infants under general anesthesia. EIT is a promising tool to find the optimal positive end-expiratory pressure, which needs to be individualized.PMID:38693633 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14914 (Source: Paediatric Anaesthesia)

Global Health Experience among General Surgery Residents ’: Experiences, Attitudes, and Barriers
Globally, approximately five billion people lack access to safe surgical and anesthetic care.1 Interest in global medical work to address this deficit has increased among both medical students and residents over the past several years. Increasingly, medical students are participating in such global health experiences (GHEs).2 –4 Residency training offer a unique opportunity for additional GHE participation within a specific medical field, allowing residents to build global health practice into their long-term careers.
