Causal association of gastroesophageal reflux disease with chronic sinusitis and chronic disease of the tonsils and adenoids
ConclusionThere is a causal association between GERD and chronic disease of the tonsils and adenoids and chronic sinusitis, respectively, and the occurrence of GERD increases the risk of developing chronic disease of the tonsils and adenoids and chronic sinusitis. Nasal Patency Measurement: State of the Art of Acoustic Rhinometry
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/a-2218-7297Nasal obstruction is one of the main symptoms of different nasal pathologies. Many physiological and pathological conditions can produce nasal airflow impairment causing nasal obstruction and affecting patients' quality of life. There are different methods for the measurement of nasal obstruction, but in clinical practice the most common used are acoustic rhinometry, rhinomanometry, and peak nasal inspiratory flow. This review describes the fundamentals of acoustic rhinometry, its normal values, the different physiological and pathological conditions that can modify nasal patency, ...

Comparison of clinical effects and safety of remidazolam and esketamine for preoperative sedation in children
CONCLUSION: In children aged 1-4 years, compared with 0.5 mg/kg esketamine, intravenous injection of 0.2 mg/kg remidazolam for preoperative sedation has a slightly longer onset time and is associated with a shorter recovery time and more stable hemodynamics, suggesting its good feasibility and safety.PMID:38189400 | DOI:10.12122/j.issn.1673-4254.2023.12.18 (Source: Journal of Southern Medical University)

Treatment outcomes of single-fraction stereotactic radiosurgery for adenoid cystic carcinoma: a case series of 55 patients
CONCLUSION: SRS provided a high rate of local tumor control, but marginal failure was frequent. Integrating SRS with added EBRT exhibits potential for enhancing local and local/marginal tumor control, particularly in recurrent cases.PMID:38180687 | DOI:10.1007/s11060-024-04561-1 (Source: Cancer Control)

Pediatric chronic rhinosinusitis
HNO. 2023 Dec 29. doi: 10.1007/s00106-023-01405-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPediatric chronic rhinosinusitis (PCRS) differs from adult chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) in several aspects. The confrontation with the environment takes place in the growing sinus system, and the immune system is also developing. The inflammatory mechanisms differ to some extent from those of adult CRS patients. The adenoid vegetations play an important role, particularly during the first 6 years of life. Other pathogenetic aspects are important (e.g., asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease, immunodeficiency). Genetically determined systemic ...

Systemic therapies for salivary gland carcinomas: an overview of published clinical trials
CONCLUSIONS: Despite all the advances in this field, there is yet no effective evidence-based regimen of ST, with all the clinical trials identified showing low rates of complete and partial responses. Further, translational studies are urgently required to characterize molecular targets and effective ST.PMID:38150606 | DOI:10.4317/medoral.26264 (Source: Medicina Oral, Patologia Oral y Cirugia Bucal)
