Prevalence and genetic characteristics of  Staphylococcus aureus isolates from cell phones of medical students from Iran
Acta Microbiol Immunol Hung. 2024 Apr 15. doi: 10.1556/030.2024.02193. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough mobile phones as a rapid communication vehicle can lead to improved quality of healthcare, they can also facilitate the transmission of pathogens to patients. This current research focuses on genetic diversity, and genes involved in resistance and biofilm production of Staphylococcus aureus isolates from mobile phones of medical students. Antibiotic resistance profiling and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of antibiotic resistance and biofilm-related genes were investigated and statistically analyzed. ...

Effect of composting and storage on the microbiome and resistome of cattle manure from a commercial dairy farm in Poland
This study examined how different cattle manure treatments, including composting and storage, affect its microbiome and resistome. The changes occurring in the microbiome and resistome of the treated manure samples were compared with those of raw samples by high-throughput qPCR for ARGs tracking and sequencing of the V3-V4 variable region of the 16S rRNA gene to indicate bacterial community composition. We identified 203 ARGs and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in raw manure. Post-treatment reduced these to 76 in composted and 51 in stored samples. Notably, beta-lactam, cross-resistance to macrolides, lincosamides and strep...

Interaction of beauvericin in combination with antibiotics against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium
Toxicon. 2024 Apr 12:107713. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2024.107713. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMultidrug resistance in bacteria is a major challenge worldwide, increasing both mortality by infections and costs for the health systems. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to find new drugs against resistant bacteria. Beauvericin (BEA) is a mycotoxin produced by entomopathogenic and other fungi of the genus Fusarium. Our work determines the effect of BEA combined with antibiotics, which has not been previously explored. The combination analysis included different antibiotics against non-methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus a...

Emerging threats of high biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance in clinical methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates from Pakistan
CONCLUSIONS: Clinical MRSA strains exhibit a substantial potential for biofilm formation, contributing to a resistant phenotype. Routine antibiotic testing in clinical settings that overlook the biofilm aspect may lead to the failure of empiric antibiotic therapy.PMID:38614413 | DOI:10.1016/j.meegid.2024.105592 (Source: Infection, Genetics and Evolution)
