Atorvastatin ‐induced intracerebral hemorrhage is inhibited by berberine in zebrafish
In this study, we aimed to investigate the protective action and mechanisms of berberine (BBR) against ATV-induced brain hemorrhage. We established an ICH model in zebrafish induced by ATV (2  μM) and demonstrated the effects of BBR (10, 50, and 100 μM) on ICH via protecting the vascular network using hemocyte staining and three transgenic zebrafish. BBR was found to reduce brain inflammation and locomotion injury in ICH-zebrafish. Mechanism research showed that ATV increased the l evels of VE-cadherin and occludin proteins but disturbed their localization at the cell membrane by abnormal phosphorylation, which decre...

How much data is enough data for imaging-guided PCI?
It is almost unanimously acknowledged that imaging guided percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) improves outcomes, particularly in complex cases, where there's a mortality reduction of up to 50% [1,2]. Numerous studies have permeated the interventional landscape, that it is very difficult not to recommend intracoronary imaging when embarking on a more complex PCI. Just as no one questions the prescription of statins, for example, which reduce all-cause mortality by approximately 20 –30% (for both primary and secondary prevention) [3–5]. Dyslipidemia and heart failure: current evidence and perspectives of use of statins
Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci. 2024 Apr;28(7):2860-2877. doi: 10.26355/eurrev_202404_35929.ABSTRACTHeart failure (HF) is a condition with growing morbidity and mortality. Dyslipidemia in HF is not concentrated around hypercholesterolemia as in coronary artery disease. As a corollary, the robust benefits seen with statins across the spectrum of CAD have not been replicated in HF. Multiple potential pleiotropic effects of statins include anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, endothelial stabilization, antiapoptotic, anti-thrombotic, and modulation of the autonomic system apart from lipid lowering. These benevolent actions need to be c...

Safety of Monoclonal Antibodies Inhibiting PCSK9 in Pregnancy: Disproportionality Analysis in VigiBase ®
In conclusion, this study showed that, currently, there are no signals of increased reporting of spontaneous abortion with alirocumab and evolocumab compared with the full database and statins in VigiBase®. Notwithstanding, lack of disproportionality is not synonymous with safety and, as disproportionality analyses depend on the number of safety reports that progressively accumulate in VigiBase®, they should be repeated at regular intervals to confirm the results of the present study.PMID:38637956 | DOI:10.1002/cpt.3269 (Source: Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics)

Metformin and statins reduce hepatocellular carcinoma risk in chronic hepatitis C patients with failed antiviral therapy
CONCLUSION: Metformin for DM and statins for HLP have chemopreventive effects on HCC risk in CHC patients who failed antiviral therapy. These findings emphasize the importance of personalized preventive strategies for managing patients with these clinical profiles.PMID:38637957 | DOI:10.3350/cmh.2024.0038 (Source: Clinical and molecular hepatology)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1859: A Systematic Review of Statins for the Treatment of Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis: Safety, Efficacy, and Mechanism of Action
Bing Liu Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the liver component of a cluster of conditions, while its subtype, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), emerges as a potentially progressive liver disorder that harbors the risk of evolving into cirrhosis and culminating in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). NASH and cardiovascular disease (CVD) have common risk factors, but compared to liver-related causes, the most common cause of death in NASH patients is CVD. Within the pharmacological armamentarium, statins, celebrated for their lipid-modulating prowess, have now garnered attention for their expansive therapeutic ...
