Dyslipidemia: A Narrative Review on Pharmacotherapy
Pharmaceuticals (Basel). 2024 Feb 23;17(3):289. doi: 10.3390/ph17030289.ABSTRACTDyslipidemia plays a fundamental role in the development and progression of atherosclerosis. Current guidelines for treating dyslipidemia focus on low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C). Despite advances in the pharmacotherapy of atherosclerosis, the most successful agents used to treat this disease-statins-remain insufficient in the primary or secondary prevention of acute myocardial infarction. Advancing therapy for hypercholesterolemia with emerging new drugs, either as monotherapy or in combination, is expected to improve cardiovascula...

Evolocumab Treatment in Pediatric Patients With Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia: Pooled Data From Three Open-Label Studies
CONCLUSIONS: In this pooled data analysis from 3 studies in pediatric patients with HoFH, evolocumab was well tolerated, with no new safety signals reported. These safety findings are consistent with findings from previous studies of evolocumab. Patients showed marked variability in LDL-C reduction. Results from this pooled analysis support guidelines suggesting a trial of PCSK9 inhibitor therapy regardless of estimated residual LDLR function.REGISTRATION: URL: https://www.clinicaltrials.gov; Unique identifier: NCT01624142, NCT03403374, and NCT02624869.PMID:38545781 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.123.320268 (Source: Arteriosclerosi...

Statin Use and Liver Cancer Risk: A Meta-Epidemiological Study of Retrospective Cohort Studies by the Types of Constructed Cohort
CONCLUSION: The lack of statistical significance in NPo supports the argument that the conclusions of existing systematic reviews on RSC have low validity. It is necessary to conduct a subgroup meta-analysis of the NPo, NPa, and HPa proposed in this study when conducting a systematic review of RSCs, which will evaluate various outcomes of a specific drug intake with time-varying exposure.PMID:38546060 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.777 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Enhanced chronic inflammation and increased branched chain amino acids in adrenal disorders: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Patients with functioning and non-functioning adrenal masses demonstrated increased GlycA and BCAA, biomarkers associated with adverse cardiometabolic disorders and mortality. Patients with NFA demonstrated an adverse metabolic profile similar to patients with MACS and CS.PMID:38546526 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae204 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Changes in Dickkopf-1, but Not Sclerostin, in Gingival Crevicular Fluid Are Associated with Peroral Statin Treatment in Patients with Periodontitis
Conclusions: Peroral statins in periodontal patients are associated with GCF levels of DKK-1 but not with sclerostin levels.PMID:38541234 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60030508 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))
