Reactive Oxygen Species ‐Responsive Composite Fibers Regulate Oxidative Metabolism through Internal and External Factors to Promote the Recovery of Nerve Function
Inspired by the pathological characteristics of excess ROS and depletion of neurotrophins after spinal cord injury, a composite fiber scaffold with spatiotemporal delivery for the efficient regulation of ROS and continuous supply of neurotrophins is developed in the study. The biomimetic composite fiber scaffold can promote the cascade reaction of neuronal autophagy metabolism, improve the local microenvironment, and help reconstruct neural networks. AbstractIt is challenging to sufficiently regulate endogenous neuronal reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, reduce neuronal apoptosis, and reconstruct neural networks und...

Conditioned medium-enriched umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells: a potential therapeutic strategy for spinal cord injury, unveiling transcriptomic and secretomic insights
CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the CBG-UCNSC method effectively preserved the integrity of the transplanted neuronal-like cells and improved locomotor function. Thus, CM-enriched cells can potentially reduce biosafety risks associated with animal content, making them a promising option for clinical applications in treating spinal cord injuries.PMID:38658405 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-024-09503-8 (Source: Molecular Biology Reports)

Identification of hub genes and key pathways in spinal cord injury via bioinformatics analysis
This study aimed to explore the hub genes and related key pathways in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) based on the bioinformatics analysis. Two microarray datasets (GSE45006, GSE45550) were obtained from the GEO database and were merged and batch-corrected. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in SCI were explored with the Limma, and the weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was conducted to explore the module genes. Functional enrichment analysis and Gene set variation analysis (GSVA) were used to investigate the biological functions and key pathways of the key genes related to SCI. Then the protein-protein i...

Small nucleolar RNA host gene 1 silence inhibits the lipopolysaccharide-induced microglial apoptosis and inflammation
This study was designed to investigate the role of small nucleolar RNA host gene 1 (SNHG1) on the apoptosis and inflammatory response of microglial cell BV-2 and its underlying molecular mechanism. The C5 lamina contusion-induced mouse model of spinal cord injury (SCI) was constructed. Mouse microglia BV2 was stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to establish the in vitro model of SCI. The quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction method was used to quantify RNA expression levels. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were used to quantify concentrations of inflammatory cytokines. Protein levels were asses...

A systematic review of validity and reliability assessment of measuring balance and walking at the level of International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) in people with spinal cord injury
CONCLUSIONS: One consideration for testing people with disabilities is to observe the reliability and validity of the instrument, which was addressed in this study in various fields. In our study, seven tools for assessing SCI were evaluated, and it was found that the 10-meter walk (10MWT) tool performs better and more easily than other tools. The Mini-BESTest tool was suggested as a reliable tool for assessing standing balance in SCI subjects.PMID:38652087 | DOI:10.1080/10790268.2024.2335413 (Source: Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine)
