Impact of anti-CASPR2 autoantibodies from patients with autoimmune encephalitis on CASPR2/TAG-1 interaction and Kv1 expression.
Abstract Autoantibodies against CASPR2 (contactin-associated protein-like 2) have been linked to autoimmune limbic encephalitis that manifests with memory disorders and temporal lobe seizures. According to the growing number of data supporting a role for CASPR2 in neuronal excitability, CASPR2 forms a molecular complex with transient axonal glycoprotein-1 (TAG-1) and shaker-type voltage-gated potassium channels (Kv1.1 and Kv1.2) in compartments critical for neuronal activity and is required for Kv1 proper positioning. Whereas the perturbation of these functions could explain the symptoms observed in patien...

Cancers, Vol. 11, Pages 755: Functional Interaction of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 2-Alpha and Autophagy Mediates Drug Resistance in Colon Cancer Cells
We examined the effects of stable knockdown of HIF-1α or HIF-2α expression on autophagy and drug resistance in colon cancer cells. We found that under normoxic conditions, malignant cells exhibit increased basal levels of autophagy, compared with non-malignant cells, in addition to the previously reported coexpression of HIF-1α and HIF-2α. Knockdown of HIF-1α or HIF-2α expression resulted in increased autophagic and apoptotic cell death, indicating that the survival of cells is HIF-dependent. Cytotoxic-induced cell death was significantly i...

Electroporation optimizes the uptake of boron-10 by tumor for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) mediated by GB-10: a boron biodistribution study in the hamster cheek pouch oral cancer model.
Abstract Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a promising cancer binary therapy modality that utilizes the nuclear capture reaction of thermal neutrons by boron-10 resulting in a localized release of high- and low-linear energy transfer (LET) radiation. Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is based on electroporation (EP) that induces opening of pores in cell membranes, allowing the entry of compounds. Because EP is applied locally to a tumor, the compound is incorporated preferentially by tumor cells. Based on the knowledge that the therapeutic success of BNCT depends centrally on the boron content in tumor and n...

Long-Term Memory Dysfunction in Limbic Encephalitis
Niels Hansen1,2* 1Department of Epileptology, University of Bonn Medical Center, Bonn, Germany2Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University of Goettingen, Goettingen, Germany Limbic encephalitis (LE) is an autoimmune disease defined by clinical criteria, such as seizures, psychiatric and in particular working memory abnormalities in conjunction with apparative criteria underlying structural or functional changes in the temporal lobe according to autoimmune encephalitis guidelines (1). Working memory encompasses a transient encoding of information in readiness for further processing within a time windo...

Blood anti-müllerian hormone is a possible determinant of recurrent early miscarriage, yet not conclusive in predicting a further miscarriage
ConclusionAn altered ovarian reserve is a possible determinant of unexplained recurrent early miscarriage. However, AMH blood level predicts neither the delay nor the outcome of a subsequent pregnancy. (Source: Reproductive BioMedicine Online)

Photons without bolus versus electrons with bolus after upfront mastectomy without immediate reconstruction in breast cancer patients
To evaluate locoregional control and outcome after mastectomy in patients treated by post-mastectomy highly conformal electron radiotherapy (PMERT) with bolus compared to patients treated by highly conformal photon radiotherapy (PMPhRT) without bolus. A total of 583 received PMERT and 224 received PMPhRT. No significant difference in overall survival was observed between the 2 groups. The risk of locoregional recurrence, was significantly higher with PMPhRT than with PMERT. (Source: International Journal of Radiation Oncology * Biology * Physics)

Acts of life: Assessing entheseal change as an indicator of social differentiation in postmedieval Aalst (Belgium)
This study investigates this proposed link between EC as a physical activity marker and SES within one well‐defined temporo‐ geographic context. EC data from 16 entheses in three skeletal collections from the postmedieval town of Aalst, Belgium, were evaluated using the Coimbra method. The skeletal assemblages represent distinct socio‐economic groups, evidenced by historical and dietary isotope data. The Louis D'Haesele erstraat sample represents lower class individuals (n = 46), the Hopmarkt sample middle‐class individuals (n = 110), and the Saint Martin's church (n = 13) higher class individuals. EC data ar...

Selinexor plus low-dose bortezomib and dexamethasone for patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma
Selinexor is an oral inhibitor of the nuclear export protein exportin 1. Preclinical studies demonstrated synergistic antimyeloma activity between selinexor and proteasome inhibitors (PI) through suppression of NF-B signaling and nuclear retention of tumor suppressor proteins. We tested selinexor in combination with low-dose bortezomib and dexamethasone (SVd) for the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (MM). The primary objectives of this study were to determine the safety profile, overall response rate (ORR), and a recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D) of SVd. We enrolled 42 patients to receive selinexor (60, 8...
