Subjective Memory Complaints and Their Relationship with the Objective Cognitive Performance of Stroke Patients
Conclusion: Changes in SMCQ scores of stroke patients were inconsistent and varied when compared to changes in MMSE and MBI scores, indicating that it is not a reliable metric on its own. SMCs have a clinical relationship with OCP and significant emotional and motivational effects. In clinical practice, it is important to understand and consider SMCs after stroke.Dement Geriatr Cogn Disord

Lactate Dehydrogenase Predicts Hemorrhagic Transformation in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke
This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between serum LDH levels and HT. Methods: We retrospectively included 542 AIS patients with HT and 1091 age and gender-matched patients without HT. Demographic and clinical data were obtained from medical records, and blood samples were obtained within 24 hours after admission. The characteristics of groups were compared. With the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis, we assessed the discriminating capacity of LDH levels in predicting HT in patients with AIS. The logistic regression model was used to determine the connection between LDH and HT. Results: The ...

COVID-19 and brain aging: what are the implications of immunosenescence?
Curr Aging Sci. 2022 Dec 28. doi: 10.2174/1874609816666221228103320. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe human lifespan is increasing, and mankind is aging. It is estimated that, until the year 2050, this population worldwide will reach 22% of the total world population. Along with aging, the human immunologic system changes, a process called immunosenescence or even inflammaging. The aging immune system increases mortality and morbidity in the elderly mainly because it loses its capacity to react against internal and external aggressions. There is a decrease in B and T lymphocytes and CD4+ lymphocytes lose the CD28 protein ...

Evaluating feasibility, value and characteristics of an intergenerational friendly telephone visit program during the Covid-19 pandemic
Social isolation and loneliness are increasingly recognized as serious health risks for older Americans (1). Social isolation and loneliness are related forms of social disconnection that are associated with the incidence and worsening of anxiety and depressive disorders, coronary artery disease and stroke, dementia, and premature death (2-6). Thus, social distancing policies and isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic have uniquely impacted older adults.
