Interleukin-18 gene promoter 607A polymorphism, but not 137C polymorphism, is a protective factor for ischemic stroke in the Chinese population: A meta-analysis
Publication date: September 2016 Source:Meta Gene, Volume 9 Author(s): Ming-Jie Zhang, Yi Zhou, Xu Wang, Xue Chen, Yan Pi, Lu Guo, Chang-Yue Gao, Jing-Cheng Li, Li-Li Zhang Some epidemiological studies have evaluated the association between interleukin (IL)-18 promoter polymorphisms and the risk of ischemic stroke (IS), but the results were inconsistent. The present meta-analysis was therefore performed to investigate the relationship between IL-18 promoter 137G/C and 607C/A polymorphisms and the risk of IS in the Chinese population. Related studies from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CBMdisc and CNKI databases...

Association study of C-reactive protein associated gene HNF1A with ischemic stroke in Chinese population
Ischemic stroke is a life-threatening condition due to obstructed blood supply of the brain. Elevation of plasma C-reactive protein, an important inflammatory marker, was known to associate with increased risk...

Association of the HNF1A polymorphisms and serum lipid traits, the risk of coronary artery disease and ischemic stroke
ConclusionsThese findings suggest that the HNF1A polymorphisms may be the genetic risk factors for CAD and IS.

Oxidative stress gene polymorphisms may have impact in the development of ischemic stroke
ConclusionIt is unlikely that CAT and GPX1 SNPs are risk factors for IS. Our results showed that smoking may be a risk factor for IS risk in patients having MnSOD mutant genotypes.

Oxidative stress gene polymorphisms may have an impact in the development of ischemic stroke
ConclusionsIt is unlikely that CAT and GPX1 single nucleotide polymorphisms are risk factors for IS. The results of the present study show that smoking may be a risk factor for IS risk in patients with MnSOD mutant genotypes.

A SNP in 5′ untranslated region of CD40 gene is associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke in a Chinese population: a case-control study
In conclusion, after a comprehensive comparison with other studies, we confirmed that the rs1883832T allele but not the rs1883832C allele is associated with an increased risk of IS. The rs1883832 polymorphism may exert influences on abnormal CD40 expression in IS patients among the Chinese population.

Association between Interleukin-18 promoter polymorphisms and risk of ischemic stroke: A case-control study
Conclusion This study concludes that IL-18 −607AA genotype and A allele may be risk factors to IS, whereas IL-18 −137GC genotype and C allele may be protective factors against IS in Egyptian population.
