Effect of Melatonin on Increasing the Effectiveness of Liver Preservation Solution
CONCLUSION: When the findings were evaluated, intraperitoneal administration of melatonin, a cytoprotective antioxidant, was found to play an effective role in preserving immunohistochemical and biochemical properties of liver tissue integrity and hepatocytes in University of Wisconsin solution.PMID:37485562 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.22694

Melatonin Promotes Mitochondrial Biogenesis and Mitochondrial Degradation in Hepatocytes During Sepsis
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrate that melatonin plays a role in regulating mitochondrial quality control in sepsis-induced hepatocytes. It achieves this result by promoting mitophagy and inducing mitochondrial biogenesis, thereby selectively eliminating dysfunctional mitochondria.PMID:37471665

Ferroptosis-induced Cardiotoxicity and Antitumor Drugs
Curr Med Chem. 2023 Jul 19. doi: 10.2174/0929867331666230719124453. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe induction of regulated cell death ferroptosis in tumors is emerging as an intriguing strategy for cancer treatment. Numerous antitumor drugs (e.g., doxorubicin, etoposide, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, trastuzumab, arsenic trioxide, 5-fluorouracil) induce ferroptosis. Although this mechanism of action is interesting for fighting tumors, the clinical use of drugs that induce ferroptosis is hampered by cardiotoxicity. Besides in cancer cells, ferroptosis induced by chemotherapeutics can occur in cardiomyocytes, and this featur...

Comparative transcriptome analysis reveals the key genes and pathways involved in drought stress response of two wheat (Triticum aestivum L) varieties
In this study, we found that "Deguo 2" exhibited higher tolerance to drought than "Truman". Transcriptomics analysis enabled identification of 6084 and 7146 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), mainly mapping flavonoid biosynthesis, plant hormone, phenolamides and antioxidant pathways and revealed altered expression levels of about 700 genes. Exogenous melatonin application enhanced wheat tolerance against drought stress. Co-expression analysis showed that bHLH and bZIP transcription factors may be involved in the regulation of various pathway genes. Take together, these results provide new insights for us on exploring t...

Does exposure to moonlight affect day/night changes in melatonin and metabolic parameters in Amazonian fish?
Comp Biochem Physiol A Mol Integr Physiol. 2023 Jul 18:111489. doi: 10.1016/j.cbpa.2023.111489. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLunar cycle modulates the rhythmic activity patterns of many animals, including fish. The effect of the moonlight cycle on daily melatonin and metabolic parameters was evaluated in matrinxã (Brycon amazonicus) subjected to external natural lighting. Eighty juvenile were distributed in 4 tanks of 1m3 (20 fish/tank) and divided into two groups. One group was exposed to the full moon and the other group to the new moon for 30 days, which corresponds to the duration of the lunar period. At the end of t...
