The effects of melatonin on the viability and osteogenic/odontogenic differentiation of human stem cells from the apical papilla
CONCLUSIONS: Melatonin treatment enhanced osteogenic/odontogenic differentiation of hSCAPs with a dose dependent effect on cell viability.PMID:37715020 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-023-08747-0

Melatonin Supplementation for Cancer-Related Fatigue in Patients With Early Stage Breast Cancer Receiving Radiotherapy: A Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS: In this double-blind placebo-controlled phase III trial, melatonin did not prevent or significantly improve fatigue and other symptoms in patients with early stage breast cancer undergoing RT. The analysis, showing little evidence of an effect, at mid-recruitment, assured early termination of the trial.PMID:37699115 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyad250

Differential responses to artificial photoperiods of the rising and falling phases of human melatonin rhythm consist with a dual oscillator hypothesis
Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol. 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1152/ajpregu.00095.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCircadian rhythms and sleep-wake cycles were measured in volunteers staying singly in temporal isolation unit where they were exposed to artificial short and long light-dark (LD) cycles for 7 days. The long day consisted of 16-h light and 8-h dark (LD 16:8) and the short day of 8-h light and 16-h dark (LD 8:16). During the light period, bright light of ca. 5,000 lux was given from the ceiling and during the dark period there was no illumination. Sleep was monitored by bed sensors, wrist actiwatch and polysomn...

Perioperative Anxiolysis and Analgesic Effect after Premedication with Melatonin and Pregabalin in Total Hip Arthroplasty under Spinal Anaesthesia: A Prospective Comparative Trial
CONCLUSIONS: Pregabalin was found better for perioperative anxiolysis, post-operative analgesia and for prolongation of duration of spinal anaesthesia when compared to melatonin.PMID:37694243 | PMC:PMC10492595 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_323_22

Effects of cyclic adenosine monophosphate modulating agents during oocyte pre-maturation and the role of melatonin on in vitro maturation of bovine cumulus-oocyte complexes
In conclusion, bovine COC pre-maturation with C-type natriuretic peptide and forskolin, followed by IVM with 10-8 M melatonin improves meiotic resumption rates, TZPs, mitochondrial distribution and mRNA expression for SOD and CAT.PMID:37696223 | DOI:10.1016/j.anireprosci.2023.107327

Unlocking Synergistic Potential: Agomelatine Enhances the Chemotherapeutic Effect of Paclitaxel in Breast Cancer Cell Through MT1 Melatonin Receptors and ER-alpha Axis
This study investigates the potential of agomelatine (AGO), a synthetic melatoninergic drug, in combination with paclitaxel (PTX) for the treatment of breast cancer. The effects of AGO, PTX and melatonin (MTN) on breast cancer cell viability were investigated, focusing on the role of MT1 receptors. Cell viability and gene expression were analyzed in MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell experiments. The results show that AGO has cytotoxic effects on breast cancer cells similar to MTN. Combining AGO and MTN with PTX showed synergistic effects in MCF-7 cells. The study also reveals differences in the molecular mechanisms o...
