Elevated galectin-3 levels detected in women with hyperglycemia during early and mid-pregnancy antagonizes high glucose  - induced trophoblast cells apoptosis via galectin-3/foxc1 pathway
CONCLUSION: Future studies were required to validate whether plasma galectin-3 might become a potential biomarker for hyperglycemia during pregnancy. Elevated galectin-3 levels might be a vital protective mechanism among those exposed to hyperglycemia during pregnancy.PMID:37626284 | DOI:10.1186/s10020-023-00707-5

SGLT2 inhibitor canagliflozin alleviates vascular calcification through suppression of NLRP3 inflammasome
CONCLUSIONS: Our study for the first time demonstrates that CANA exerts a protective effect on vascular calcification at least partially via suppressing NLRP3 signaling pathway. Therefore, supplementation of CANA as well as inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome presents a potential therapy for vascular calcification.PMID:37523743 | DOI:10.1093/cvr/cvad119

Kaempferol attenuates nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in type 2 diabetic mice via the Sirt1/AMPK signaling pathway
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Jul 5;165:115113. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115113. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common liver diseases with limited treatment options. Moreover, its prevalence is doubled in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Kaempferol (KAP) is a flavonoid compound that has been suggested to have beneficial effects on NAFLD, but studies on the mechanism are lacking, especially in the diabetic state. Herein, we investigated the effect of KAP on NAFLD associated with T2DM and its underlying mechanism in vitro and in vivo. The results of in vitro studies in...

Hydroxysafflor yellow A inhibits endothelial cell ferroptosis in diabetic atherosclerosis mice by regulating miR-429/SLC7A11
CONCLUSIONS: HSYA is expected to become an important health drug to prevent the occurrence and development of T2DM/AS.PMID:37410531 | DOI:10.1080/13880209.2023.2225543

Nicotine exacerbates diabetic nephropathy through upregulation of Grem1 expression
CONCLUSION: Grem1 plays a vital role in nicotine-exacerbated DN. Grem1 may be a potential therapeutic target for chronic smokers with DN.PMID:37415117 | DOI:10.1186/s10020-023-00692-9

Diabetes is accompanied by secretion of pro-atherosclerotic exosomes from vascular smooth muscle cells
CONCLUSION: These data identify a novel paracrine signaling pathway that promotes the cardiovascular complications of diabetes mellitus.PMID:37179303 | DOI:10.1186/s12933-023-01833-4

LncRNA DANCR deficiency promotes high glucose-induced endothelial to mesenchymal transition in cardiac microvascular cells via the FoxO1/DDAH1/ADMA signaling pathway
This study aims to evaluate underlying mechanisms of ADMA in DCM especially for EndMT under diabetic conditions. A diabetic rat model was induced by streptozotocin (STZ) injection, and human cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (HCMECs) were stimulated with high glucose to induce EndMT. Subsequently, the role of ADMA in EndMT was detected either by exogenous ADMA or by over-expressing dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase 1 (DDAH1, degradation enzyme for ADMA) before high glucose stimulation. Furthermore, the relationships among forkhead box protein O1 (FoxO1), DDAH1 and ADMA were evaluated by FoxO1 over-expression or...

Periostin acts as a bridge between gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and chronic inflammation to modulate insulin resistance by modulating PPAR α/NF-κB/TNF-α signaling pathway
CONCLUSION: POSTN levels were significantly higher in pregnant women with GDM and were associated with chronic inflammation and PPARα expression. POSTN may act as a bridge between GDM and chronic inflammation to modulate insulin resistance by modulating PPARα/NF-κB/TNF-α signaling pathway.PMID:37106515 | DOI:10.2174/1871530323666230427104724
