Assessment of the deep learning-based gamma passing rate prediction system for 1.5 T magnetic resonance-guided linear accelerator
This study collected 125 verification plans [reference plan (RP), 100; adapted plan (AP), 25] from patients with prostate cancer treated using Elekta Unity. Based on our previous study, we employed a convolutional neural network that predicted the GPRs of nine pairs of gamma criteria from 1%/1  mm to 3%/3 mm. First, we trained and tested the DL model using RPs (n = 75 andn = 25 for training and testing, respectively) for its optimization. Second, we tested the GPR prediction accuracy using APs to determine whether the DL model could be applied to APs. The mean absolute error (MAE) and correlation coefficient (r) of t...

Enhancing prostate MRI expertise: educational strategies for radiologists
AbstractThe adoption of multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) and the Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System has significantly changed prostate cancer diagnosis and management. These advancements, alongside novel biomarkers and updated International Society of Uropathology grade groups, have improved cancer detection and prognostication. Despite this progress, varying levels of expertise in mpMRI among radiologists have resulted in inconsistent assessments, potentially leading to unnecessary procedures and diminished confidence in the modality. This review assesses the educational landscape for prostate MRI, highlighting availab...

Spatial Pattern of Intraprostatic Recurrence after Definitive External-Beam Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer: Implications for Focal Boost to Intraprostatic Dominant Lesion
CONCLUSIONS: Local intraprostatic recurrence after definitive EBRT often occurs at the same site or at a partially overlapping site adjacent to the primary intraprostatic dominant lesion. Our results support the merit of focal dose-escalation for intraprostatic dominant lesions in definitive EBRT.PMID:38681892 | PMC:PMC11043806 | DOI:10.1016/j.adro.2024.101489 (Source: Adv Data)

Contemporary trends in the incidence and timing of spinal metastases: A population-based study
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of spinal metastases has increased in recent years, particularly among older patients. The incidence and timing vary substantially among different primary cancer types. These findings contribute to the understanding of disease trends and emphasize a growing population of patients who require subspecialty care.PMID:38680988 | PMC:PMC11046986 | DOI:10.1093/noajnl/vdae051 (Source: Adv Data)

A Modular Trial of Androgen Signaling Inhibitor Combinations Testing a Risk-Adapted Strategy in Patients with Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Adding ipilimumab to AAPA did not improve outcomes in men with androgen responsive mCRPC. Despite the addition of carboplatin+cabazitaxel, men in the Unsatisfactory group had shortened survivals. Adaptive designs can enrich for biologically and clinically relevant disease subgroups, to contribute to the development of marker-informed, risk-adapted therapy strategies in men with prostate cancer.PMID:38683200 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-3740 (Source: Clinical Cancer Research)

Extreme hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy for localized prostate Cancer: Efficacy and late urinary toxicity according to transurethral resection of the prostate history
CONCLUSION: Extreme hypofractionated SBRT is effective for localized prostate cancer with a low risk of late toxicity. A history of TURP is associated with a higher risk of late urinary toxicity. These findings may contribute to the optimal management of patients treated with this regimen, particularly those with a history of TURP.PMID:38681137 | PMC:PMC11047194 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctro.2024.100779 (Source: Clinical Prostate Cancer)

Temporal trend in risk of prostate cancer death in men with favourable-risk prostate cancer
CONCLUSION: Men diagnosed in 2011-2016 with low-risk and favourable intermediate-risk PCa have a similar relative benefit but smaller absolute benefit of curative treatment compared to men diagnosed in 2000-2005.PMID:38682731 | DOI:10.2340/sju.v59.34015 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Urology)

A systematic review of cytoreductive prostatectomy outcomes and complications in oligometastatic disease
CONCLUSION: CRP improves medium-term cancer control in patients with oligometastatic PCa. The morbidity and complication rates of this surgery are comparable with other approaches, but postoperative incontinence rate is higher compared with RP for localized disease.PMID:38680575 | PMC:PMC11053306 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajur.2022.03.017 (Source: Cancer Control)
