An Outbreak of Home Distillation Methanol Poisoning in Turkey During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Single Center Experience
CONCLUSION: In methanol poisoning due to home brewing, low blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and impaired consciousness at the time of admission were clinical findings associated with mortality. In terms of laboratory findings, especially severe metabolic acidosis and lactate elevation were observed in the group that was mortal despite treatment.PMID:38685840 | DOI:10.34172/aim.2024.23 (Source: Archives of Iranian Medicine)

Prognosis of Methanol Poisoning in a Developing Setting
CONCLUSION: Besides LOC, patients with any abnormality in their brain CT scan on admission were found to be at higher risk of death, and patients with supratentorial edema were at risk of longer LOS. Brain CT-scan on admission should be considered as a part of the routine procedure during the management of methanol-poisoning.PMID:38685837 | DOI:10.34172/aim.2024.20 (Source: Archives of Iranian Medicine)

A case of paralytic shellfish poisoning caused by consumption of visceral balls from geoduck Panopea japonica in Japan
Toxicon. 2024 Apr 27:107738. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2024.107738. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the end of March 2018, an unprecedented food poisoning incident due to ingestion of the visceral balls of geoduck Panopea japonica occurred in Japan. The patient, presented with symptoms of numbness on the lips and general weakness, was diagnosed as paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP). The patient immediately treated with the mechanical ventilation recovered and left the hospital after 3 days treatment. Saxitoxins (STXs) in the plasma and urinary samples collected from the patient on the first and second day after hospitalizat...
