Anatomy/Physiology textbook recommendations for an incoming med student
Hi all, I have been very fortunate to have been accepted to a med school (Iowa Carver, and have some more interviews coming). A lot of my current med students friends, my mom (former physician), and other advisors (also physicians) have recommended that I start looking over some anatomy or physiology textbooks so I don't get swamped when I enter next fall. Could current med students please give me any recommendations for textbooks or resources I could look into? Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How Helpful Is a Minor
I am currently a Physiology and Neurobiology major and considering a minor in Molecular Cell Biology. I will have 7/15 MCB credits when completing my major so I will need to take an additional 3 classes to get the remaining 8 credits. In order to do so, I would need to take 18-19 credits my last three semesters (About 12-14 credits will be upper level PNB/MCB courses). Will a minor make a significant impact on my dental school application? Past SDN post have said it does not at all, however... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Really struggling. :( (In general, but especially with passage-based questions)
I got sick end of last week and got a little off-schedule. So, I am working on week 1 of Nymeria's 100-day MCAT schedule. I started with CARS stuff apart from that schedule and that was going fine. Neuroscience is "my jam" and I got an A in 400-level Neurobiology in school. I didn't want to know the percentage, but I got nearly half of the passage-based questions wrong on TBR Biology (Physiology's) Nerve & Muscle questions. I did much better on the discrete questions, so I think it's the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need advice! Applying 2026?
I am currently a junior in university and I want to apply for the next cycle (over the summer) for optometry school. I am feeling super uneasy right now and I need some advice...on everything. I don't know any other pre-optometry students at my school and my advisor is of no help. I will be as straight to the point as I can if anyone can lend their own opinion. When should I complete my last few pre-requisites? Spring 2021, I plan to take Orgo Chem II, Physics II, and Physiology... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help on course and institution selection please?
Hey everybody, So, I'm strongly considering taking classes again and doing a DIY postbacc starting January of next year or sooner. I'm planning to work out in Southern California (most likely around LA and Orange County) by the end of the month most likely, and I'm wondering if any of you can suggest any institutions and classes out there in Southern California, while I do that please? I'm looking at courses that I could get a 3.7+ in ideally and considering anatomy and physiology along with... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

These are the descriptions if anyone can let me know their thoughts if these count for science gpa? Thank you! Video Lecture Resources??
What's up guys! I am a first medical student at a DO with self directed studying. I have been using Costanzo for physiology but I honestly HATE reading that book. I am looking for a video lecture series for videos that covers materials to the same depth as costanzo. Not really looking for board review videos but more of like explanations and in depth so I can develop a good understanding before I study for boards. Side note, I also use boards and beyond for when I am reviewing the material a... Video Lecture Resources?? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I take another semester of science courses and re-take 1yr of General Chemistry?
I graduated from college almost 2 years ago but I've been doing a DIY post-bacc among working and other things. I'm currently taking 3 courses this semester but in 8-week sessions. Anatomy & Physiology 1 (4 credits) just finished a few days ago and I got an A (4.0). Now I have Anatomy & Physiology 2 (4 credits) and Organic Chemistry 2 (4 credits). In undergrad, I got a C in General Chemistry 1 lecture (3 credits) and a B+ in the lab (1 credit). In General Chemistry 2 I got a C+ (4 credits)... Best Strategies/Resources for NBME exams during M1 & M2
Hi everyone! My school administers final exams that are customized NBME exams. We don't have faculty written exams so I was wondering the best way to optimize my results and what study strategies/resources are the best to utilize. For reference, our curriculum is a two-pass curriculum in which the first year we cover all the organ systems in regards to normal physiology. During M2, we do a second pass of the organ systems focusing on pathology. I really appreciate your advice in... Best Strategies/Resources for NBME exams during M1&M2 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Class Question
Not really a WAMC post but I don’t know where to post this. So I’m doing a masters program and I need a little help finalizing a couple classes this semester. In my first semester I took physiology, cell bio, and topics in pharmacology. This semester I’m currently signed up for dental histology, biochemistry, and fundamentals of pharmacology. I feel like the teachers for the biochem class are being ridiculous and I don’t want to risk my gpa so I was thinking of switching up the biochem class... How does post bacc. work effect GPA?
I'm looking to possibly do post bacc. work with physiology or biomedical sciences, in which after completing the program in a year I will have a master's degree. 1. is this the same as graduate school? or a master's degree? 2. How does this effect undergraduate GPA? How is it weighted? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Volunteer EMS- Good Idea?
Hi everyone! I've been thinking of different things that would give me great medical-related experience, and I decided that I want to volunteer at our school's fire department as an ems. I'm a little worried about how big of a commitment this will be on top of being involved in college athletics, and also how this will balance into my course load. I am taking o-chem 1 and anatomy & physiology this fall. If anyone who has experience as a volunteer ems, or who has had to juggle around... Volunteer EMS- Good Idea? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
