For schools that require a full year of biology, how can I meet that requirement?
My school only does a one semester general bio course with lab, so I was wondering how to fill up the second semester bio requirement. I'm taking other upper level bio courses next semester like cell bio and genetics, but neither has a lab component. For schools such as UPitt med that require a full year of bio with lab, I'm not sure how I can meet that 2 semester lab requirement. Would a class such as human physiology lecture+lab fulfill that requirement? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC for MD for next cycle 2.71(with SMP)/503
Okay I know that this title sounds insane, but I am seeing if I have any feasibility in applying MD for the upcoming cycle. For my cGPA and sGPA, I have a 2.71 from the College of William and Mary. However, I recently finished my master's degree in medical physiology from CWRU, I finished with a 3.906. Regarding the MCAT, I've taken it 3 times, my first score has expired My second score was from 01/2021, and I got a 502 (127/125/124/126). My third score from 09/08/2023 was a 503... Thoughts on Pathoma, sketchy, UWorld only for step 1
I have received As/high Bs in all my classes with anki. However, I'm like a few thousand cards behind on old blocks. The goal originally was to finish Pathoma, sketchy micro, sketchy pharm, and my old physiology/biochem/etc cards from my systems blocks, and a pass of uworld before I sit for my P/F step 1. I'm starting to think of ditching the old cards I'm behind on and just doing pathoma, sketchy micro and pharm, and uworld. So y'all- is this enough for me to pass? I'll save time by... Aphantasia in med school
So I have aphantasia. For those of you who don’t know what that is, I am cognitively unable to imagine imagery. For example, if you tell me to think of what an apple looks like, or picture my moms face, I am unable to. People with aphantasia typically have a high IQ, however, from my understanding, a lot of anatomy and physiology memorization is imagery based. Do I stand a chance in medical school? I feel like my inability to imagine pictures will put me at a disadvantage. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

3.25 GPA, 525 MCAT, in DIY post-bacc. School list help, WAMC?
I'm applying next June. Thank you for any advice. 1. Grades 3.25 cGPA and 3.05 sGPA. GPA low mostly due to a string of failures 5 years ago. Upward trend, graduated, got healthy, set mind on medicine. Now in the 1st of 3 DIY post-bacc quarters at public university. Couldn't afford private/SMP. Course selection is limited. Plan is microbiology, microbial physiology, foundations + critical readings + seminar in biomedical sciences, intermediate statistics, regression modeling, biology... anatomy and physiology ar community college
I took 31 credits at a community college (pre calc+bio 1+2 english composition) then I transferred to a 4 year college and taking other prer reqs here. I have taken upper level bio courses and calc 1 and 2 here. So I am now plnning on taking natomy and physiology 1 and 2 at the CC I attended because I can't fit them in my schedule during fall and spring and only that CC offers them in winter or summer. How will this look? I'm only taking anatomy and physiology because of MW-AZ and Mw-IL. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Questions about transitioning to Optometry
Hello, I graduated with a bachelors in biomedical engineering but unfortunately I do not think I want to make a profession out of it. I was considering transitioning to optometry but I wanted to ask for your thoughts. I have taken 2 physics classes with lab, 1 molecular biology course with lab, 1 systems physiology with lab, 1 stats (tho for engineers), 3 calcs, 2 chem with lab, and orgo 1 with lab. I have a 3.32 GPA. Can I transition from BME to pre optometry with these course credits? Is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Community College or 4 Year College Thoughts
I just need some seconds thoughts on this. My post bac semester starts in one week. I'll be taking biology anatomy and physiology parts I & II organic chemistry I & II, and Physics I & II. I decided to take bio a&p because I noticed I missed questions repeatedly in this area while studying for the MCAT and while going over the syllabus for the course at my college, I feel it will help me with the content gaps I suffer from and reinforce some of the information I have from prior bio courses... Biology Prerequisite
Filling out my secondary applications right now, and 3-4 of the schools I'm applying to specifically ask for 8 semester hours of "general biology". Given that I only have 4 credits from General Biology, despite having about a bajillion hours of genetics, microbio, biochem, environmental science, anatomy, and physiology, should I register for General Biology II this year to meet the prerequisites or should my other biology classes suffice? Why are anesthesiologists masters of physiology?
Clinical year med student here considering anesthesiology for a multitude of reasons. One of the things everyone says is that anesthesiologists are masters of physiology and understand it at a deeper level than most other physicians. I’m wondering why that’s the case? Lots of other specialties (internal medicine, ICU, etc) need to understand physiology for their job so what is it about anesthesiology that requires even deeper knowledge? Just curious as this is something I hear super commonly. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NBME “Shelf” (Pre-Clinical) and NBME CBSE Exam Prep
Hey guys, I’m currently an M2 attending a Caribbean Medical School. At the end of our basic sciences program, the school administers 3 NBME Subject/”Shelf” Exams (Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology). These 3 exams determine our eligibility to take the NBME CBSCE “COMP” exam which subsequently determines our eligibility to sit the USMLE Step 1. As I understand it, not all schools administer these exams and as a result I’ve been hard pressed to find prep materials that are... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
