Should I take physiology or go for an easier course schedule?
I switched to the premed track late and am rushing to get all my reqs done so I can take the MCAT in a reasonable time. I have three semesters left until the MCAT. Including physiology, I have four hard classes left: orgo II, physics 1 and 2, and obviously physiology. If I take all of these I'll have to double up one semester, which would most likely be next semester. I think I could still maintain good grades...but I'd really rather not put myself through that if the payoff of physiology is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Length of time in school and volunteer time
I have two questions if any of you could help out. First, I graduated with a non-science BA 15 years ago and a low gpa (3.1). I returned this past summer to complete all prerequisites other than general chem which I already had. I added in physiology, anatomy, a couple extra labs, and time TAing, and if all goes well, I should be done with all prerequisites and some other classes (52 credits total) at the end of next semester with about a 4.0. Assuming I have a very good reason for the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is Medicine out of reach for me due to my testing skills? Ultimatum
Hello SDN Community, I graduated from UCLA in 2019 as a Biology major with a 3.8 gpa. I have plenty of ECs (Leadership positions, community service, research - w/ publications, presentations, and posters). However, the bane of my life has been the MCAT. I want to preface what I am about to say by mentioning that I don't have a scored MCAT thus far. I initially studied for the MCAT in the summer of my junior year (2018) w/ a prep class, without taking physiology or Psychology and this... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Did I make mistake picking anesthesia?
Hi, I’m a CA1 at large academic hospital and quite frankly fairly unhappy with my residency experience and anesthesia in general. I’m writing to see if my feelings are typical or if I need to consider other options. My end game is likely not practicing general anesthesia but rather chronic pain (hospital employed) or hospital administration. I am not overly interested in the physiology of anesthesia and the leadership from my PD and chair is non-existent. IThe work environment is such that I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I gave my first MCAT and got 504 in April, did a re-take in August and got 508 in Sept. I have about 300 hours of research experience. I have clinical experience with an internal medicine doctor and a neurology doctor. I have been volunteering in an underprivileged area school for the past two years. My Ideal Medical School Curriculum 2022 & Beyond: Critiques? How about yours?
I think the medical school structure needs to be changed for many reasons (listed below). What do you think of this design? M1: A1.) Foundations in Human Biology (2 months/8 weeks): Covers introductory concepts that recur in human medicine including cellular biology/biochemistry, histology, and physiology. Exams are Friday mornings. A2.) Foundations in Clinical Medicine: (2 months/8 weeks): For the first two months, a student is lectured on foundational... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is (applying to) medical school worth it if I want to strictly treat medicine like a job?
Kind of a poorly worded title, but I don't know how else to word this. I'm getting ready to apply in 2022 (studying for the MCAT, finishing up my ECs, etc.) after finishing up a reinvention postbacc (3.98, ~67 units; ~3.3 final sGPA). I've recently had some life experiences that's making me second think everything, not just applying to medical school. On one hand, the amazing mastery over physiology & pathology the doctor I work for showed had really affirmed in me that that level of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Nursing program doesn't like my science major classes - Okay to repeat them in the version they want without jeopardizing med school application?
I am co-applying to a few different programs because they're all competitive and I want to be safe. My B.S. in Biology is not very employable on its own and I'll need to do some further school in some form. The BSN program is really persnickity about what pre-req classes it wants. A lot of the ones I took for my Biology major (my Microbiology geared towards natural science majors, my Physiology geared towards natural science majors, etc.) are not things they'll accept. They want the other... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OB/GYN or FM w/ GYN Fellowship ?
I’m a medical student and our program has us take several tests to narrow down specialties. I’ve always been interested in OB/GYN because I love the physiology of female reproductive system and I also think the OB side would be rewarding. I am more interested in women health I feel but I don’t know if I’m just really repelled by the lifestyle many OBGYNS have. I shadowed a lot in premed and hope to spend some elective clerkships there as well. All my tests I’ve taken show OB/GYN as my number... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
