The effect of prosthetic limb sophistication and amputation level on self-reported mobility and satisfaction with mobility
Lower extremity amputations from diabetes and/or peripheral artery disease (PAD) are a significant cause of morbidity, functional impairments, and reduced quality of life (QOL).1,2 With the increased incidence of diabetes, the number of amputations performed in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) increased by over 40% from 2008 to 2018.3 The overall healthcare burden of amputation is projected to rise with the increasing prevalence of diabetes and PAD.4 (Source: Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation)

Evaluation of Plasma Biomarkers for Causal Association With Peripheral Artery Disease
CONCLUSIONS: Integrating human observational studies and genetic causal inference highlights several key pathways in PAD pathophysiology. This work demonstrates that a substantial portion of biomarkers identified in observational studies are not well supported by human genetic evidence and emphasizes the importance of triangulating evidence to understand PAD pathophysiology. Although the identified biomarkers offer insights into atherosclerotic development in the lower limb, their specificity to PAD compared with more widespread atherosclerosis requires further study.PMID:38545784 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.124.320674 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Peripheral Artery Disease Ultrasound Assessment in Predicting the Severity of Coronary Artery Disease
Life (Basel). 2024 Mar 1;14(3):333. doi: 10.3390/life14030333.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis in a progressive disease that is systemic in nature, and hence the simultaneous presentation of coronary artery disease (CAD) and peripheral artery disease (PAD) is not uncommon. As clinically manifested PAD is associated with worse cardiovascular outcomes, the timely identification of subclinical atherosclerosis seems of utmost importance. Ultrasonography (US) is an ideal imaging modality for assessing PAD that is easy to use, accurate, widely available and avoids unnecessary exposure to radiation. Several US parameters have been propose...

NovoSorb ® Biodegradable Temporising Matrix (BTM): What we learned from the first 300 consecutive cases
CONCLUSION: Extensive complex wounds of different aetiologies unsuitable for immediate STSG can be successfully reconstructed by means of two-staged BTM application and subsequent skin grafting. Importantly, presence of wound contamination or infection and prior allograft coverage appear to jeopardise good BTM and STSG take.PMID:38547552 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjps.2024.02.065 (Source: Hand Surgery)
