Differential renal proteomics analysis in a novel rat model of iodinated contrast-induced acute kidney injury
Ren Fail. 2023 Dec;45(1):2178821. doi: 10.1080/0886022X.2023.2178821.ABSTRACTContrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI), which occurs after the use of iodinated contrast media, has become the third leading cause of hospital-acquired acute kidney injury (AKI). It is associated with prolonged hospitalization and increased risks of end-stage renal disease and mortality. The pathogenesis of CI-AKI is unclear and effective treatments are lacking. By comparing different post-nephrectomy times and dehydration times, we constructed a new, short-course CI-AKI model using dehydration for 24 h two weeks after unilateral nephrectom...

Effects of Octreotide-Long-Acting Release Added-on Tolvaptan in Patients with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease: Pilot, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Cross-Over Trial
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with ADPKD, octreotide-LAR added-on tolvaptan reduced GFR more effectively than octreotide-LAR and placebo. Octreotide-LAR also reduced total and cystic kidney volumes and attenuated the acquaretic effect of tolvaptan.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRY NAME AND REGISTRATION NUMBER: Tolvaptan-Octreotide LAR Combination in ADPKD (TOOL), NCT03541447.PMID:36754009 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000049 (Source: Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology : CJASN)

Fluid transport in porous media based on differences in filter media morphology and biofilm growth in bioreactors
Environ Res. 2022 Dec 19:115122. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2022.115122. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo elucidate the effect of pore structure on bioclogging and seepage flow in bioreactors, we used X-ray computed tomography (X-CT) to investigate the changes in seepage flow of porous media in zeolite, gravel and ceramsite bioreactors with biofilm growth by injecting a non-ionic contrast medium iohexol. Based on the X-CT images using a ball-and-stick model, the highest average pore radius (R¯) and the average pore throat radius (r¯) in the ceramsite column were found under the initial conditions, which facilitated its permea...

Association of Nonphysician Practitioners and Contrast Media Utilization: An Exploratory Study of National Medicare Claims for CT Examinations from 2011 to 2020 ∗
Health care practitioners continue to deal with an ongoing iodinated contrast media shortage, prompted by the April 2022 lockdown-related closure of the factory in China that produces the world ’s supply of iohexol (Omnipaque, GE Healthcare, China) [1]. A recent study examined national utilization data for contrast-enhanced CT to inform decisions about optimal use of the diminished contrast media supply [2]. In addition, radiologists have shared institutional approaches for managing the contrast media shortage, and radiological societies have provided recommendations [3,4]. Long-term Transplant Function After Thrombolytic Treatment Ex Vivo of Donated Kidneys Retrieved 4 to 5 H After Circulatory Death
Conclusions. The present method salvages kidneys from extended unontrolled donation after circulatory death using thrombolytic treatment while preserving histology and enabling transplantation after ex vivo reconditioning, with clinically acceptable late function after 3 mo, as measured by creatinine and iohexol clearance. Evaluation of the accumulation of the iodinated contrast agents diatrizoic acid and iohexol in Dreissena polymorpha mollusks
This study was the first to provide information on iodine concentration in whole soft tissues and several organs in control zebra mussels. Moreover, it showed, after exposure, an increase of iodine content mainly in the digestive glands, followed by gills and gonads, highlighting that ICMs actually enter the organisms. Thus, bioaccumulation of ICMs studies were then performed, by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry, on entire mollusks and digestive glands of organisms exposed at 0, 10, 100, and 1000 μg/L of both ICMs during 21 days, followed by 4 days of depuration. These first data on ICMs concentra...

Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 7646: Radiochemical Feasibility of Mixing of 99mTc-MAA and 90Y-Microspheres with Omnipaque Contrast
n Liang Huang Yttrium-90 (90Y) microspheres are widely used for the treatment of liver-dominant malignant tumors. They are infused via catheter into the hepatic artery branches supplying the tumor under fluoroscopic guidance based on pre-therapy angiography and Technetium-99m macroaggregated albumin (99mTc-MAA) planning. However, at present, these microspheres are suspended in radiolucent media such as dextrose 5% (D5) solution. In order to monitor the real-time implantation of the microspheres into the tumor, the 90Y microspheres could be suspended in omnipaque contrast for allowing visualization of the correct distri...

Iatrogenic Small Intestinal Obstruction
Rev Esp Enferm Dig. 2022 Oct 20;116. doi: 10.17235/reed.2022.9225/2022. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn 83-year-old female, suffering from abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, was admitted to our hospital. Gas-liquid level and tumor was not seen on the abdominal computed tomography scan. Instead, two high density balloon which were 2.7cm(distal) and 3.3cm(proximal) in diameter separately were shown (Figure A) in small intestine. The balloons proved to be part of ileus tube and iohexol which was incorrectly injected into the balloons caused a blockage in the tube. During colonoscopy, we were surprised to find that the dis...
