Skull and Scalp En-Bloc Harvest Protects Calvarial Perfusion: A Cadaveric Study
Conclusion Calvarial transplantation may be a technically viable option for skull defect reconstruction that requires vascularized composite tissues (bone and soft tissue) for optimal outcomes. Application of GFR estimating equations to children with normal, near-normal, or discordant GFR
ConclusionThe formulas that most closely approximated the measured GFR varied depending on the pattern of discordant eGFR results. Based on the results, we recommend using the CKiD U25-combined formula to screen for children with a low GFR. Either the CKiD U25-combined or FAS-combined would be recommended for changes in eGFR longitudinally. However, because all formulas were discordant from the iGFR-4pt in over a third of participants, further refinement of pediatric eGFR formulas is needed at the normal/near-normal range.Graphical abstractA higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available asSupplementary i...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 6238: Posterior Urethral Valves, Unilateral Vesicoureteral Reflux, and Renal Dysplasia (VURD) Syndrome: Long-Term Longitudinal Evaluation of the Kidney Function
In conclusion, VURD syndrome does not show a protective role in kidney function preservation. On the contrary, it seems to be associated with a deterioration of the kidney function on a long-term follow-up. (Source: International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health)

Comparison of Cystatin C and Creatinine in the Assessment of Measured Kidney Function during Critical Illness
CONCLUSIONS: eGFR creatinine systematically over-estimated kidney function after prolonged critical illness. Cystatin C better estimated true kidney function as it appeared unaffected by the muscle loss of prolonged critical illness.PMID:37256861 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000203 (Source: Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology : CJASN)

Facilitated encapsulation of a nonionic contrast agent for X-ray computed tomography into lipid vesicles by the multiple emulsification-solvent evaporation method
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2023 May 18;227:113360. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2023.113360. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe studied the encapsulation of iohexol (Ihex), a nonionic contrast agent used for X-ray computational tomography, into lipid vesicles using the multiple emulsification-solvent evaporation method to formulate a nanosized contrast agent. This lipid vesicle preparation method consists of three steps: (1) primary emulsification for producing water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions containing fine water droplets that will be converted to the internal water phase of the lipid vesicles, (2) secondary emulsification for ...

Disinfection byproducts of iopamidol, iohexol, diatrizoate and their distinct acute toxicity on Scenedesmus sp., Daphnia magna and Danio rerio
In this study, the degradation of three typical ICM (iopamidol, iohexol, diatrizoate) at initial concentration of 10 μM and 100 μM in chlorination and peracetic acid without or with NH4+ was investigated, and the potential acute toxicity of treated disinfected water containing potential ICM-derived DBPs on Daphnia magna, Scenedesmus sp. and Danio rerio was tested. The degradation results suggested that only iopamidol was significantly degraded (level of degradation >98%) by chlorination, and the degradation rate of iohexol and diatrizoate were significantly increased in chlorination with NH4+. All three ICM were not d...

27 Risk factors of augmented renal clearance in critically ill children using iohexol clearance for renal function assessment
Conclusion Our findings raise clinicians’ awareness about ARC potentially being present in children after major surgery. This knowledge allows to anticipate on enhanced elimination of drugs by using empirically adjusted dosing regimens immediately from the start of treatment. (Source: Archives of Disease in Childhood)
