Indocyanine green and iohexol loaded hydroxyapatite in poly(L-lactide-co-caprolactone)-based composite for bimodal near-infrared fluorescence- and X-ray-based imaging
This study aimed to develop material for multimodal imaging by means of X-ray and near-infrared containing FDA- and EMA-approved iohexol and indocyanine green (ICG). The mentioned contrast agents (CAs) are hydrophilic and amphiphilic, respectively, which creates difficulties in fabrication of functional polymeric composites for fiducial markers (FMs) with usage thereof. Therefore, this study exploited for the first time the possibility of enhancing the radiopacity and introduction of the NIR fluorescence of FMs by adsorption of the CAs on hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanoparticles. The particles were embedded in the poly(L-lactide...

Measured GFR in murine animal models: review on methods, techniques, and procedures
Pflugers Arch. 2023 Aug 8. doi: 10.1007/s00424-023-02841-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide, with increasing rates of morbidity and mortality. Thus, early detection is essential to prevent severe adverse events and the progression of kidney disease to an end stage. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the most appropriate index to evaluate renal function in both clinical practice and basic medical research. Several animal models have been developed to understand renal disease induction and progression. Specifically, murine models are useful to s...

Anesthetic Spread of Ultrasound-Guided Paraspinal Blocks in Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery: A Three-Dimensional Reconstruction Image Study
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with ESPB, ITPB yielded increased stability in lateral and anterior chest wall block with improved anterior and intercostal spread, but reduced cephalocaudal spread.PMID:37535785 (Source: Pain Physician)

Multiple Sterile Withdrawals from Iohexol Bottles Does Not Increase Contamination Risk
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that single-use 300 iohexol bottles may be reusable and that the contrast media is mildly antimicrobial, but not enough to retard contamination. In setting of shortages, contrast media bottles can safely be reused. This is valuable for conserving resources and limiting unnecessary health care-associated costs.PMID:37535776 (Source: Pain Physician)

Endoscopic administration of Coca-Cola for medical management of a wedged intestinal trichobezoar in a cat
Can Vet J. 2023 Aug;64(8):747-752.ABSTRACTA 16-year-old, neutered male domestic longhair feline with gastroduodenal and jejunal trichobezoars was treated with administration of Coca-Cola through endoscopic injection catheter. Examination with a Karl Storz endoscope identified a trichobezoar causing suspected partial or early complete obstruction of the jejunum; however, the length of the scope was inadequate to retrieve the trichobezoar. Consequently, 55 mL of Coca-Cola and 5 mL of iohexol were instilled into an injection catheter to disrupt the trichobezoar. No peri- or postoperative complications were reported, and the c...
