Efficacy and utilization of intravascular ultrasound in office-based lower extremity endovascular interventions for peripheral arterial disease
CONCLUSIONS: Routine use of IVUS offers a powerful diagnostic paradigm that has the potential to significantly decrease contrast use and to improve objectivity in choosing appropriate vascular tools to maximize intra-procedural efficacy. The discovery of adverse findings not initially noticed on angiography further reinforces the value of IVUS utilization.PMID:35924685 | DOI:10.1177/17085381221104630 (Source: Vascular)

Confirmation of pleural displacement of central venous catheter tip in an infant, by bedside contrast injection
J Vasc Access. 2022 Aug 1:11297298221115561. doi: 10.1177/11297298221115561. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 14-week infant, with respiratory distress since birth, was referred to our institution. Chest radiography and ultrasonographic examination confirmed right-sided diaphragmatic eventration. Owing to difficulty in securing a peripheral venous access, a double-lumen 4-Fr central venous catheter (CVC) was inserted into the right internal jugular vein, under ultrasonographic guidance. Aspiration of blood from both ports confirmed intravascular placement. A frontal radiograph done after the procedure showed the catheter ti...

Differences in the Recurrence Rate of Immediate Adverse Drug Reactions According to the Components of Alternative Contrast Media: Analysis of Repetitive Computed Tomography Cases in a Single Tertiary Hospital
ConclusionsThe recurrence of immediate ADRs increased in certain RCM combinations of preceding and subsequent CT scans, and the RCMs did not show cross-reactivity. Therefore, the clinical benefit of the alternative RCM considering cross-reactivity is limited. This result suggests that the side chains of RCM do not have an important role in the recurrence of immediate ADRs. (Source: Drug Safety)

Generalized Bullous Fixed Drug Eruption to Iodinated Contrast Media in Skin of Color
A 69-year-old Malay woman presented with a widespread painful blistering rash, which had first begun over her neck and trunk, a few hours after a computed tomography scan performed with 90 mL of iohexol contrast for surveillance of sigmoid adenocarcinoma. Examination was notable for multiple circular hyperpigmented patches with inlying blisters and well-demarcated erosions involving her upper lip, neck, abdomen, and lower extremities (Figures 1 and 2). The total area of detachable epidermis was approximately 25%. (Source: The American Journal of Medicine)

O-042 Incidence of periprocedural stroke with radial access for diagnostic cerebral angiograms
ConclusionIn our experience, transradial access for diagnostic cerebral angiograms was associated with a low but not neglectable incidence of periprocedural strokes when compared to the traditional femoral approach. Patient vascular anatomy should be evaluated prior to selection of vascular access and patients should be made aware of the possibility of a slightly higher possibility of periprocedural stroke with transradial access.Abstract O-042 Table 1 Patient Age Access Vessels catheterized Catheter used Radial Medication Contrast Fluoro Time Platelet Count INR GFR COVID Status Stroke Symptoms NIHSS Imaging ...

Hyaluronic acid-coated ultrasmall BiOI nanoparticles as a potentially targeted contrast agent for X-ray computed tomography
Int J Biol Macromol. 2022 Jul 15:S0141-8130(22)01526-4. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2022.07.094. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCommercial X-ray computed tomography (CT) contrast agents (CAs) are not appropriate for multicolor CT imaging and are limited due to a lack of tumor targeting. In this contribution, to favor the combination of high Z elements like bismuth and iodine for a broad range of X-ray photon energy, BiOI nanoparticles (NPs) are synthesized with hyaluronic acid (HA) coating to target the tumor cells with CD44 overexpression. The crystal structure of BiOI NPs is determined by X-ray powder diffraction, and the siz...
