Calcineurin inhibitors experience in unplanned pregnancies with active lupus disease: A retrospective observational study
CONCLUSION: This study reveals that tacrolimus can be effectively used in unplanned pregnancies with active lupus disease, providing favorable maternal and fetal outcomes. The findings emphasize the importance of considering CNIs, particularly tacrolimus, in the management of SLE pregnancies, even in cases of unplanned pregnancies with a history of lupus nephritis.PMID:38606855 | DOI:10.5414/CP204528 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics)

Integrative analysis of single-cell and bulk transcriptome data reveal the significant role of macrophages in lupus nephritis
CONCLUSION: Our results present an important pathophysiological role for macrophages in LN, and our preliminary results demonstrate significant pro-inflammatory effects of LGALS9 gene in LN macrophages.PMID:38610007 | DOI:10.1186/s13075-024-03311-y (Source: Cell Research)

Integrin αvβ3 Limits Cytokine Production by Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cells and Restricts TLR-Driven Autoimmunity
J Immunol. 2024 Apr 12:ji2300290. doi: 10.4049/jimmunol.2300290. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPlasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) are strongly implicated as a major source of IFN-I in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), triggered through TLR-mediated recognition of nucleic acids released from dying cells. However, relatively little is known about how TLR signaling and IFN-I production are regulated in pDCs. In this article, we describe a role for integrin αvβ3 in regulating TLR responses and IFN-I production by pDCs in mouse models. We show that αv and β3-knockout pDCs produce more IFN-I and inflammatory cytokines tha...

Sick leave and disability pension following delivery in women with systemic lupus erythematosus
CONCLUSION: SLE mothers more often had work loss in the prenatal year to 3 years postpartum compared to non-SLE mothers. Lower education and sick leave in the year of delivery were associated with a higher odds of work loss in the first year postpartum in SLE.PMID:38607692 | DOI:10.1080/03009742.2024.2321057 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology)

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension as the initial presenting manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus in a child
We report a 12-year-old girl presented with chronic holocranial headache and occasional episodes of projectile vomiting for the last 6 months and then developed blurring of vision for the last month. She fulfilled the criteria for IIH. Subsequent evaluation revealed a diagnosis of SLE. The occurrence of IIH in SLE is not coincidental and is reported in 1%-5.4% of patients with SLE. Though corticosteroids have not been widely used in IIH, underlying SLE warranted administering corticosteroids with subsequent complete resolution of IIH. Pediatricians, neurologists, intensivists, and ophthalmologists should consider SLE as a ...
