Association of Longitudinal Changes in NT-proBNP Following HeartMate 3 Implant with Subsequent Long-Term Clinical Outcomes
Purpose: Monitoring of natriuretic peptides (NT-proBNP) has prognostic implications in patients with congestive heart failure. The role of serial monitoring of NT-proBNP in patients with a durable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is not well-defined. We sought to: 1) assess serial trends in NT-proBNP within 3 months after implant; and 2) determine the association between short-term NT-proBNP changes and subsequent long-term risk of right heart failure (RHF), as defined by INTERMACS, and all-cause mortality in patients implanted with the contemporary HeartMate 3 ( ΗΜ3, Αbbott, USA) LVAD. Exercise Test and Hemodynamic Outcomes in Heart Transplant Patients Treated with Long-Term Mechanical Circulatory Support as Bridge to Transplantation
Purpose: Due to the shortage of heart donors, the utilization of long-term mechanical circulatory support (MCS) as bridge-to-transplantation (BTT) is increasing. Treatment with MCS has previously been shown to be associated with increased allosensitization, but not with increased rates of acute cellular rejections. Whether the post-transplant hemodynamics may be affected is unclear. The purpose of this sub-study was to investigate the exercise capacity and hemodynamic outcomes of MCS-BTT patients after heart transplantation (HTx). Cessation of Anticoagulation in Patients with Fully Magnetically Levitated Ventricular Assist Device - A Case Series
Purpose: Despite the significant reduction in hemocompatibility events with the last generation of durable left ventricular assist devices (LVAD), current guidelines still recommend a goal international normalized ratio of 2.0 to 3.0, with vitamin K antagonists, to mitigate the risk of pump thrombosis and thromboembolic complications. The natural history of patients supported with LVAD following prolong cessation of anticoagulation (AC) therapy is unknown. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Trending Renal Function Pre- and Post-Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) Implantation
Purpose: Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is an important biomarker and an independent predictor of worsening outcomes in patients with advanced stages of chronic heart failure. Prior studies of early generation left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) have demonstrated stability of eGFR over time. We studied the trend of eGFR in chronic heart failure patients pre- and post-LVAD implantation. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Mechanism and Clinical Impact of Late Tricuspid Regurgitation in Patients with Heartmate 3
Purpose: Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is commonly observed in patients with HeartMate 3 (HM3) left ventricular assist device (LVAD). However, limited data is available with regard to the etiology of late TR after HM3 LVAD insertion and its impact on outcomes. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Peri-Implant Renal Replacement Therapy and Mortality in a Contemporary Multicenter Registry of Heartmate 3 LVAD Recipients
Purpose: Assessment of risk and long-term mortality is an essential component of patient selection for durable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy. We aimed to examine the association between early need renal replacement therapy (RRT) and long-term survival in a contemporary, multicenter cohort of patients implanted with a HeartMate 3 LVAD. The Impact of Body Surface Area and Left Ventricular Size on Outcomes Following Durable LVAD Implantation
Purpose: The differential impact of left ventricular (LV) size and body surface area (BSA) on survival following durable left ventricular assist device (d-LVAD) implantation has garnered increasing attention. We sought to determine the outcomes of d-LVAD recipients stratified by LV size and BSA in a single center analysis. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Outcomes of Patients with Peripartum Cardiomyopathy Requiring LVAD Support: A Single-Center Experience
Purpose: Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) typically presents with left ventricular (LV) dysfunction at the end of pregnancy or after delivery. Rarely, PPCM leads to advanced heart failure and refractory cardiogenic shock. Durable left ventricular assist devices (dLVAD) are a feasible treatment option in these cases. In this retrospective review, we aim to investigate outcomes of PPCM patients on dLVAD support. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Guideline-Directed Medical Therapy Use in a Contemporary Multicenter Cohort of Hm3 LVAD Recipients
Purpose: Guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) for heart failure now includes 4 medication classes. Data on GDMT use in contemporary HeartMate 3 (HM3) left ventricular assist device (LVAD) recipients are limited. The purpose of this preliminary analysis from the BP-LVAD study is to describe medication use in a multicenter cohort. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

The Forgotten Pump - Waitlist & Post-Transplant Outcomes of Heart Transplant Recipients Supported by Heartware HVAD Before & After Device Recall
Purpose: In June 2021, the FDA issued a recall of the Heartware HVAD device prompting changes to the 2018 UNOS allocation policy. In July 2022, UNOS allowed patients with HVAD to be listed as Status 1,2, or 3 using the exception pathway and did not require hospitalization for higher status. What impact these changes had on waitlist and post-transplant outcomes for HVAD patients has yet to be reported. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Comparing a Low/No Warfarin Population versus Therapeutic in a Heartmate 3 Population
Purpose: The continuous-flow design of the Heartmate 3 (HM3) was developed to lower thrombosis risk compared to other left ventricular assist devices. Anticoagulation with warfarin remains the standard of care for further risk reduction. There is a lack of studies evaluating patients with HM3 off or at subtherapeutic warfarin levels. We aimed to review cases of patients with HM3 off warfarin or who have been consistently subtherapeutic and compare outcomes to similar patients consistently at therapeutic levels. Use of Speckle Tracking Echo to Predict Right Heart Failure Following Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Purpose: Right Heart Failure (RHF) is an important complication of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. Right ventricular (RV) analysis with speckle tracking echo (STE) is a helpful measure of RV function. We performed a meta-analysis of studies examining preoperative RV strain on STE as a predictor of postoperative RHF. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)
