Association of Longitudinal Changes in NT-proBNP Following HeartMate 3 Implant with Subsequent Long-Term Clinical Outcomes
Purpose: Monitoring of natriuretic peptides (NT-proBNP) has prognostic implications in patients with congestive heart failure. The role of serial monitoring of NT-proBNP in patients with a durable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is not well-defined. We sought to: 1) assess serial trends in NT-proBNP within 3 months after implant; and 2) determine the association between short-term NT-proBNP changes and subsequent long-term risk of right heart failure (RHF), as defined by INTERMACS, and all-cause mortality in patients implanted with the contemporary HeartMate 3 ( ΗΜ3, Αbbott, USA) LVAD.
