Exercise Test and Hemodynamic Outcomes in Heart Transplant Patients Treated with Long-Term Mechanical Circulatory Support as Bridge to Transplantation

Purpose: Due to the shortage of heart donors, the utilization of long-term mechanical circulatory support (MCS) as bridge-to-transplantation (BTT) is increasing. Treatment with MCS has previously been shown to be associated with increased allosensitization, but not with increased rates of acute cellular rejections. Whether the post-transplant hemodynamics may be affected is unclear. The purpose of this sub-study was to investigate the exercise capacity and hemodynamic outcomes of MCS-BTT patients after heart transplantation (HTx).
