Risk Factors of Inhaled Tobramycin Related Nephrotoxicity Post Lung Transplantation
Purpose: Tobramycin inhaled solution (ITS) is considered to have minimal systemic aminoglycoside, toxicity; however, there have been reports of nephrotoxicity. Lung transplant recipients (LTxr) may be at a higher risk for ITS nephrotoxicity due to CKD, calcineurin inhibitors, and having a higher rate of systemic ITS absorption due to less mucus production and a less acidic pH within the lungs. Our study aims to investigate the association between ITS, renal function, and survival in LTxr. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Lung Transplant Allocation and Outcomes
Purpose: In 2005, the U.S. lung allocation score (LAS) was instituted to prioritize medical urgency of waitlisted lung transplantation (LTx) candidates. Although LAS decreased certain waitlist disparities, there are conflicting data regarding disparities in survival outcome. Here, we investigated post-LAS era survival outcomes across racial/ethnic groups. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Racial Disparities in Minority Donors and Utilization in Lung Transplantation
Purpose: Racial disparity is woven into every aspect of modern society, and medicine is no different. The purpose of this study is to analyze the potential effects that race can have on medical treatment, specifically by examining lung transplantation and its outcomes across different groups in the United States and interpreting what patterns emerge. The DCD Paradox: DCD Evaluations and Their Impact on Donor Lung Utilization
Purpose: Although the utilization of DCD donors has increased the donor organ pool,>50% of DCD donors do not yield transplantable organs. Alarmingly, DCD donor lung utilization rates in the United States remain (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Using Octogenarian Donors for Lung Transplantation Results in Good Short and Long-Term Outcome: A Single-Center Experience
Purpose: The shortage of lung donors prompts research into expanding the donor criteria for lung transplantation (LTx). One of these criteria is donor age. Recent data showed that LTx from well selected donors ≥70 years results in equal outcome as with younger donors. The aim of this study was to describe our experience with LTx from octogenarian donors aged ≥80 years. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Predicted Total Lung Capacity is a Reliable Size-Matching Parameter in Lung Transplantation for Pulmonary Fibrosis
Purpose: Lung transplantation represents the only curative treatment for patients with end-stage pulmonary fibrosis. Organ allocation typically considers various factors, including recipient lung capacity measurements. While actual total lung capacity (aTLC) is provided by direct measurements, predicted total lung capacity (pTLC), calculated by age, body-height and sex according to the Global Lung Function Initiative, and corrected total lung capacity (cTLC), being the mean of aTLC and pTLC, are estimated. Impact of Hepatitis C Viremic Lung Donors on Waitlist Time and Outcomes in High-Risk Recipients
Purpose: Despite the advent of direct acting antivirals (DAA), the Hepatitis C viremic (HCV+) donors remain an untapped pool. Furthermore, published studies to date have been limited to successful outcomes in low risk profile candidates. Here, we report a case series of lung transplantation (LTx) from HCV+ donors into a cohort that includes: 1) Critically ill patients with high allocation score (LAS/CAS) on ECMO and mechanical ventilation, 2) Highly sensitized patients, and 3) Patients at risk for malabsorption. Donor Profile Changes with the Lung Composite Allocation Score
Purpose: In March of 2023, the lung allocation score (LAS) was updated to a single composite allocation score (CAS). CAS utilizes a simultaneous assessment of matching factors, whereas previously this was performed sequentially. We studied the effect of the new score on donor profiles in lung transplantation.
