Kinetics of Procalcitonin, CRP, IL-6 and Presepsin in Heart Transplant Patients Undergoing Induction with Anti-Thymocite Globulin (rATG)
Purpose: The differentiation between systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and sepsis in surgical patients is of vital importance. Procalcitonin (PCT) and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) are widely used biomarkers, however PCT and CRP appear to be impaired by the administration of Anti Thymocyte Globulin (ATG). Presepsin has been suggested as an alternative biomarker of sepsis. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Gender and Ethnicity Interacts and Predicts Incidence of Chronic Kidney Disease Post Heart Transplantation: A UNOS Registry Report
Purpose: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) post-heart transplantation affects long-term survival. Risk of developing CKD may vary amongst patients, yet studies with intersectionality analyses are scarce. Hence, we examined whether gender and ethnicity interact and acts as individual risk factors for developing CKD. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Impact of Citizenship Status on Waitlist and Post Heart Transplantation Outcomes in Pediatrics
Purpose: Extensive reports exist regarding organ transplantation medical tourism; however, the association of citizenship& pediatric heart transplant (HTx) outcomes has not been previously reported. We sought to quantify the impact of US citizenship on waitlist patterns& post-transplant survival (PTS) in pediatric HTx. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

The Impact of Functional Warm Ischemia Time in DCD Heart Transplantation
Purpose: Donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors are being increasingly used for heart transplantation in the United States. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of functional warm ischemia time on outcomes following heart transplantation. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Predictors of Severe Graft Dysfunction After DCD Heart Transplantation with Direct Procurement and Preservation
Purpose: Direct procurement and preservation (DPP) with ex-vivo normothermic perfusion is the main retrieval method used for donation after circulatory-determined death (DCD) heart transplantation in our centre. The aim of this study is to evaluate the presence of potential predictors of severe primary graft dysfunction (PGD) in this population that can be identified during the period of ex-vivo perfusion. Heart and Lung Recovery Team Refusal May Lead to Donation After Circulatory Death Underutilization
Purpose: Transplant teams may decline recovery from a donation after circulatory death (DCD) donor due to low likelihood to progress to asystole in an appropriate timeframe. We sought to determine if potential DCD donors declined for intact neurological function by heart and lung recovery teams ultimately progress to asystole and if these donors may represent an underutilized source of heart or lung donation. Out-Of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Donor (OHCAd) Hearts: A Single-Center Experience
The objective of this work is to demonstrate how hearts derived from marginal donors with uncontrolled cardiac arrest have a quality that is not inferior in terms of survival compared to hearts originating from standard patients. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Twenty-Minute No-Touch Period Before Controlled DCD Heart Retrieval: Is There Still a Chance for Successful Recovery? The Italian Experience
Purpose: Hearts from cDCD donors are becoming an increasing source for heart transplantation (HT). Unfortunately, their use has been questioned for years in Italy given the longest-in-the-world no-touch period after death declaration (20 min). We aimed to analyze the early Italian experience using cDCD hearts for transplantation. (Source: The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation)

Overcoming the Boundaries: A Very Long-Term Heart Transplantation Single-Center Experience Using Elderly Donors
Purpose: The shortage of heart donors related to population aging is an emerging issue in european countries. Even if older donors start to be use for transplantation, late results are still conflicting. We aimed to evaluate long-term outcomes of heart transplantation using donors ≥60 years of age.
