Cessation of Anticoagulation in Patients with Fully Magnetically Levitated Ventricular Assist Device - A Case Series

Purpose: Despite the significant reduction in hemocompatibility events with the last generation of durable left ventricular assist devices (LVAD), current guidelines still recommend a goal international normalized ratio of 2.0 to 3.0, with vitamin K antagonists, to mitigate the risk of pump thrombosis and thromboembolic complications. The natural history of patients supported with LVAD following prolong cessation of anticoagulation (AC) therapy is unknown.
