An Unusual Enteric Yolk Sac Tumor: First Report of an Ovarian Germ Cell Tumor Associated With a Germline Pathogenic Variant in DICER1
We report an unusual enteric variant of ovarian YST in a 28-yr-old woman associated with a germline PV c.901C>T (p.Gln301Ter) in exon 7 of DICER1, accompanied by a somatic (YST-only) hotspot mutation: c.5437G>A, p.E1813K. To our knowledge, this is the first report of an ovarian germ cell tumor associated with a germline DICER1 PV. We review other reported cases of ovarian germ cell tumor with DICER1 PVs and discuss the differential diagnosis of this unusual variant of YST which was originally diagnosed as a mucinous adenocarcinoma. Activin A and Sertoli Cells: Key to Fetal Testis Steroidogenesis
The long-standing knowledge that Sertoli cells determine fetal testosterone production levels is not widespread, despite being first reported over a decade ago in studies of mice. Testicular Sertoli cell tumour and potentially testicular Leydig cell tumour are features of DICER1 syndrome
This report extends the spectrum of DICER1-related tumours to include testicular Sertoli cell tumour and potentially testicular Leydig cell tumour. Diagnosis of a testicular Sertoli cell tumour should prompt DICER1 genetic testing so that patients with a DICER1 germline pathogenic variant can benefit from established surveillance guidelines. DICER1 genetic evaluation may be considered for testicular Leydig cell tumour. Our findings suggest that miRNA dysregulation underlies the aetiology of some testicular stromal tumours. Yolk Sac Tumor of the Ovary: A Report of 150 Cases and Review of the Literature
One hundred fifty yolk sac tumors (YSTs) of the ovary in patients from 1 to 61 (mean: 21.5) years of age are described; 75% of the patients were in the second and third decades and only 1 was above 50 years of age. The clinical manifestations were typically related to a fast-growing adnexal mass; endocrine manifestations (hirsutism) were present in only 2 cases.
