A case of fulminant type 1 diabetes and protein C deficiency complicated by deep vein thrombosis
We report a case of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) at the onset of fulminant type 1 diabetes, who developed massive deep vein thrombosis with pulmonary embolism after the acute-phase DKA treatment, it being subsequently recognized that he had type I protein C partial deficiency. Our case highlights that venous thrombosis should always be considered as a potential complication of DKA. AbstractA 25-year-old man was diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) at the onset of fulminant type 1 diabetes. After acute-phase DKA treatment including placement of a central venous catheter, a massive deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmona...

LncRNA SNHG1 knockdown inhibits hyperglycemia induced ferroptosis via miR ‐16‐5p/ACSL4 axis to alleviate diabetic nephropathy
ConclusionsSNHG1 knockdown inhibited ferroptosisvia the miR-16-5p/ACSL4 axis to alleviate diabetic nephropathy, which provided some new insights for the novel treatment of diabetic nephropathy. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

Predicting three categories of Dementia Assessment Sheet for Community ‐based Integrated Care System 8‐items score‐based glycemic targets using the number of animal names recalled
ConclusionsAnimal scores would be useful in predicting the categories of DASC-8. Animal fluency could be a screening tool of DASC-8 when a patient's family member or supportive person is absent. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

A surge in serum mucosal cytokines associated with seroconversion in children at risk for type 1 diabetes
ConclusionsIn a cohort of children at risk for type 1 diabetes followed from birth, a transient, systemic increase in mucosa-associated cytokines around the time of seroconversion lends support to the view that mucosal infection, e.g., by an enteric virus, may drive the development of islet autoimmunity. Blockade of glucagon increases muscle mass and alters fiber type composition in mice deficient in proglucagon ‐derived peptides
ConclusionsThese results show that hyperaminoacidemia induced by blockade of glucagon action in mice increases skeletal muscle weight and stimulates slow-to-fast transition in type  II fibers of skeletal muscle, mimicking the phenotype of a high-protein diet. Weight loss improves inflammation by T helper 17 cells in an obese patient with psoriasis at high risk for cardiovascular events
In this study, we found an increase in Th17 cells in a patient with obesity, type 2 diabetes and psoriasis. Furthermore, weight loss with diet and exercise resulted in a decrease in Th17 cells and improvement of psoriasis. This case supports the hypothesis that obesity leads to an increase in Th1 7 cells and chronic inflammation of the skin and blood vessel walls, thereby promoting psoriasis and atherosclerosis.
