Non ‐classical monocytes frequency and serum vitamin D3 levels are linked to diabetic foot ulcer associated with peripheral artery disease
ConclusionsNon-classical monocytes frequency and vitamin  D3 levels were significantly reduced in DFU patients with PAD. Non-classical monocytes frequency was associated with vitamin  D3 in DFUs patients, and both parameters were linked to lipid profile. Vitamin  D3 upregulation was a risk-reducing factor for PAD occurrence. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

Imeglimin ‐mediated glycemic control in maternally inherited deafness and diabetes
We studied the effect of imeglimin in a patient with maternally inherited diabetes and deafness (MIDD). Imeglimin potentially improves glucose concentration-dependent insulin secretion and metabolism in MIDD. Imeglimin shows potential as a new treatment for MIDD. AbstractMitochondrial dysfunction causes maternally inherited deafness and diabetes (MIDD). Herein, we report improved glycemic control in a 47-year-old Japanese woman with MIDD using imeglimin without major adverse effects. Biochemical tests and metabolome analysis were performed before and after imeglimin administration. Blood glucose level fluctuations were det...

Type  1 diabetes, COVID‐19 vaccines and short‐term safety: Subgroup analysis from the global COVAD study
ConclusionsCOVID-19 vaccination was safe and well tolerated in patients with type  1 diabetes with similar AE profiles compared with HCs, although severe rashes were more common in type 1 diabetes patients. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

Local low ‐frequency vibration accelerates healing of full‐thickness wounds in a hyperglycemic rat model
ConclusionsThe results suggest that LLFV promotes wound healing, improves glycometabolism and inflammation, and enhances vasodilation and angiogenesis in hyperglycemic wounds. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

Exosomal circHIPK3 derived from umbilical cord ‐derived mesenchymal stem cells enhances skin fibroblast autophagy by blocking miR‐20b‐5p/ULK1/Atg13 axis
ConclusionUCMSCs-derived exosomal circHIPK3 promoted cell autophagy and proliferation and accelerated the fibroblast injury repair by the miR-20b-5p/ULK1/Atg13 axis. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

Prospective randomized comparative study of the effect of pemafibrate add ‐on or double statin dose on small dense low‐density lipoprotein‐cholesterol in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertriglyceridemia on statin therapy
ConclusionsIn patients with type  2 diabetes and hypertriglyceridemia, the addition of pemafibrate to a statin is superior to doubling a statin in reducing sdLDL-C without increasing adverse effects. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

Glycated hemoglobin variability and the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with prediabetes and type  2 diabetes mellitus: A post‐hoc analysis of a prospective and multicenter study
ConclusionHigh HbA1c variability in the highest quartile showed a statistically significant association with multiple adverse cardiovascular events in an Asian population. Minimizing HbA1c fluctuation during long-term follow up should be another important objective for type  2 diabetes patients. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

Baseline prevalence of hyperglycemia and its predictors among community clinic users of a selected rural area of Bangladesh: A cross ‐sectional study using the WHO PEN Protocol 1
ConclusionsHyperglycemia, preD and type 2 diabetes showed a comparatively high prevalence among the CC users of the selected rural area. Obesity and hypertension are the key modifiable risk factors that should be reduced using a CC-centered risk reduction strategy. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

Weight loss improves inflammation by T  helper 17 cells in an obese patient with psoriasis at high risk for cardiovascular events
In this study, we found an increase in Th17 cells in a patient with obesity, type 2 diabetes and psoriasis. Furthermore, weight loss with diet and exercise resulted in a decrease in Th17 cells and improvement of psoriasis. This case supports the hypothesis that obesity leads to an increase in Th1 7 cells and chronic inflammation of the skin and blood vessel walls, thereby promoting psoriasis and atherosclerosis. Incretin hormone responses to carbohydrate and protein/fat are preserved in adults with sulfonylurea ‐treated KCNJ11 neonatal diabetes
Insulin secretion in individuals with sulfonylurea-treatedKCNJ11 permanent neonatal diabetes is thought to be dependent on non- adenosine triphosphate-sensitive potassium channel pathways; for example, incretin hormones. We assessed incretin hormone secretion after different foods in individuals with sulfonylurea-treatedKCNJ11 permanent neonatal diabetes, in comparison with people without diabetes. Patterns of glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and glucagon-like peptide-1 secretion after protein/fat and carbohydrate meals were similar in cases and controls. An intact incretin pathway might provide a therapeutic t...
